  1. John, that last shot of the Goose and 464 is brilliant. The stock and box cars receding down the slope make the photo, or they do for me!
  2. Thanks Jim, your pictures are rather good and make our small very local exhibition look rather professional! Pity there were not vast crowds pouring in from Sleaford but maybe next year! Our Bantry in build looked better than I expected and there was a lot of interest in the layout and it surprised me how many people said they had visited Bantry and West Cork! Nelson and David, the 2-6-2t is 850 the solitary one of its class built for the Dublin Bray commuter service. My kit bash of it is in the latest New Irish Lines; subscribe NOW! the magazine is in very short supply!!
  3. I have had one of those sat in a box for how long??? Eoin you have illuminated my path! Just got to finish a J 11 before the weekend!! Ingenious modelling, very clean and tidy just like everything you do.
  4. Hi Noel, great paint finish and first class looking models, very well executed. The photos of the build are first class and a very helpful guide.
  5. The Festiniog used a by product of refining for bitumen known in the trade as LMD. Its a high sulphur product that can only be used for external combustion, eg. boilers, on land but works very well in ship engines of most types. The sulphur is not a problem once off shore!
  6. Looks good John, now we just got to get it running before June 2nd!
  7. Thanks very much for all the accolades guys. It is my first etched kit and I did start it a bit hand in mouth! But a big thank you must also go to Weshty for producing a fine kit that went together well. I am very pleased with my efforts.
  8. Here's 464, buffer plank needs painting and a few paint chips touching in. How does that happen? when you take great care! Next a light touch of weathering which I hope will hide the shadow on the bunker and wheel balance weights. Is there a secret formulae for working out the top curve on balance weights? The B4 is posed in front of my solitary nearly finished Bredin. Door handles, pulls and paint the ends, maybe some passengers?
  9. Eoin, that looks seriously good, you are a talented modeller.
  10. I like the on the platform sequence, very atmospheric. Definitely a fleet to be proud of. Mick
  11. They look really good, all of a sudden I am not so happy with the look of my A class
  12. DB Models, an ebay store in Bourne has five Silver Fox A class diesels for sale £109.99 or offer. One of each livery. I have no connection with this vendor not even as a customer.
  13. That looks really good.
  14. I was very tempted last year at York, it must be the most realistic Sulzer sound ever.
  15. A speedy recovery Seamus
  16. Looks very good David
  17. Thanks for that JHB I think a black one is the way to go and if I do another, well the choice is mine! One of the guys in the group, another John, is getting a railcar and I would like a Metro Vick C class so it looks like late fifties and there's road vehicles for that period. Well 464 is a step closer, motors in and the wheels go round with no binding. Running on croc clips at the moment I have to work out an unobtrusive pickup as I am not sure about plungers, there is not much room and I don't want to take the wheels off again.
  18. Thanks for the praise lads, I have taken my time and not rushed the build. I was certain about livery but an all black No 464 does appeal! But I am going to get the chassis back together and running next and hope I do not fall at the last fence! There is potential! I have no previous experience of building etched loco kits and it has gone together well. So its thanks to Wheshty for producing a good kit. No connection, only a happy customer.
  19. A couple more photos. I used Precision paints two pack etch primer on the frames then a light blow over with Halfords grey primer. Before all that I scrubbed the parts with Tesco scouring cream and a mutilated tooth brush when dry, carefully scrubbed again with xyelene and left to dry. I have left the frames to dry for 72hrs in a warm place so I hope all will go well with the topcoats!
  20. Kirley, I'll post some pictures, the loco is back into its constituent parts for painting. I have had it as a rolling chassis and although its not perfect as I'd like I am very pleased. The gear box was a little tricky to keep square! I am tempted to paint it with some US Floquil Grimey Black which is really a very dark grey or maybe Tamiya German grey which is also very dark.
  21. Tony, try to avoid using abrasives to clean the track. A solvent would be better as it does not mark the railheads. Cut away those little finger tips, just be careful!
  22. Hattons is the place for track and code 75 is quite acceptable for 5'3" the lower rail section looks good. Or it does with my eyes!
  23. For help and information, this is an astonishing site. And always cheerfully given, lets hope I see another ten years! and thanks to all who post here.
  24. All good stuff Kirley and your work rate never slows down, wish I had your speed! Have you got a giant stock of kits to build!
  25. Speedy recovery Dave, you have a whole lot of modelling to do, maybe have a few beers as well
