  1. I found several photos of Bord na Mona workers and trains carrying peat in my copy of"Father Brown"s trains and Railways" by E.E.O"Donnell. I liked the photos because many of them show people and train crew just going about their business. Some of which I find very moving every time I look at them. Riversuir 226; they are an easy project and I can almost guarantee you will not look at a six-wheel coach in the same light again!
  2. Excellent work and totally agree with UP6936. Hope I get to see the layout one day at an exhibition. Either side of the Irish Sea !
  3. Good news that Michael is on the mend.
  4. Good stuff David, you will be needing an extention? to run all these lovely creations on !!
  5. The first shot is rather good C25 picking its way through the weeds.
  6. Its Ace, Keep those pictures coming Pat:tumbsup:rick. If the moderators wish to move my hijack post; fine with me. Mike
  7. oops
  8. Sorry to hijack the thread Patrick, yes my B2a is based on a bachman B1 bought off flea bay well It is the worst running of my split frame locos and I had been doctoring it up and got better running but for some odd reason the rear driver sometimes climb the rail and she took a dive! there may be a picture here. Mike
  9. Look forward to your tutorials Patrick, just one point to remember for those contemplating an open top base board. Models do come off the track and they will go down the hole in the open top, only happened to me once, that was yesterday and my GSR B2a plunged 18" onto some shelves below. The shelves won!! and I now have some severe repair work to do. I shall fix some sort of netting to stop this happening again. And yes I do really like the open top concept it"s worked for me for several years. Mike
  10. I checked the Wiki site, interesting, but what a surprise; a GWR pay check with my old number. When I got made up to a fireman my number became 157. At Banbury you asked for your pay check at the booking on clerks window then presented it to the pay clerk at another special window that was only used for paying out and your cash came in a small tin! How Victorian but rather pleasant counting your cash.
  11. Wow! I seem to have asked one of" those" sort of questions! Thanks for all the thoughts and opinions; before I do surgurey I shall await Leslies expert! It was the tender section of Locomotives of the GSR that prompted the question, there seem to be tantalizing glimpses of the front bulkhead area but no detail. And having read how parsimonious The GSR was it made me wonder. Mike
  12. Leslie, I do not know Michael but I feel we have a connection through the brilliant models he makes for you and all of us. His skills inspire others to push their "envelope" and hone their own talents. Please wish him well for his operation I am sure it will be a total success and yes, I will be thinking of him; ageing comes to us all and that means the parts wear out. Kindest Regards Mike
  13. Standing ovation, let those modellers take a bow . I am envious the skill shown in those locos, should be in BRM, RM. telling what our hobby is all about.
  14. Got your attention Jim=D
  15. Does any one have a drawing or know of a photograph of how the front of the coal space was arranged on the type E tenders that ran behind the B2/ 400 class 4-6-0"s? There seems to be a bulkhead behind the tool boxes but did that have a tunnel to coal doors or just an open space like the GWR tenders? The coal slope in my photos suggests the latter but that seems an odd arrangement. Mike

    New Irish Lines

New Irish Lines has just hit the doormat(Tues am) just browsed through I think its excellent and the loose leaf drawings are a real bonus.
  17. Brilliant job! the AEC railcars look so good in GNR blue and cream.
  18. I wonder if all this bridge bashing in the UK and Ireland is because of the hgv driver shortage, because who in their right mind would want to make a career of it? What with the cost of training, drivers hours regs, veh regs, traffic and all the other idiots on the road. So employers take the easiest and cheapest option who probably come from eastern europe and do not have the best command of English. rant rant! Oh yes; I used to drive hgv"s:rolleyes:
  19. Once saw a guy stand up on top of a tank wagon at Bescot yd 25kv zapp. That memory stays with you.
  20. I enjoyed the programme and would recommend viewing. The passenger and train numbers are staggering and so was the fact that drivers are 13yrs in training and earn 7k p.a. Which seems to be 7 times the national average wage, how does the west compete with that?
  21. Mrs 84C says, have CIE imported this tendering policy from U.K. local government?
  22. Excellent pictures 33Lima thanks for posting.
  23. A good video thanks for posting, some seriously spindly bridges! And some very serious oil consumption, hope there were lots of paying punters!
  24. BNSF have used the multi engined concept, coupled with large battery packs, for quite a few years in switching service. They used to call them Green Goats and I believe 3 Cat diesels that can be swtched on/off as needed. The concept works. Lots of stuff on the net. Warbonnet, my relative who works on Network Fail assures me thats the term! Mind you I could put up with the .....ing for the dosh they get paid, much much better than when I worked on BR
  25. The sides look really good John, how long till they hit the door mats? Mike
