We are living in a golden age for Irish Railway Modelling
-
Thanks Dave for the pictures they look great .
-
Any pictures would be nice 132 is on Mark’s models Facebook page and looks the business
-
I see Rails of Sheffield are doing the same so they must have received stock so hopefully they will be shipped soon.
-
On a more serious note if one purchases from PW from 1st January 2020 that order will now be subject to 23 % vat upon its arrival in the EU (ROI )which would make it expensive.

You sound like a certain Del Trotter who said he doesn’t bother with any of that registration stuff as it keeps the paperwork to a minimum!

That is the $64,000 question? I thought one of the supertrain loco will them and one doesn’t , I received my very fabulous B125 in the post from IRM , but it has no tablet snatchers and as far as I’m aware all the Black and Tan locos had them I was thinking they might be in the bag of bling bits that comes with the loco but unfortunately not , it’s not the end of the world and doesn’t detract from what is a beautiful model , however it would be wonderful if someone like SSM , ECM trains or IRM could do them as an accessory and we could fit them as required to any loco .

That is correct.

Yes two boilers in the original Dutch Van which has two circular vent's on the roof one per boiler.

Who Are The Box-Shifters And Why Are They So Bad?
flange lubricator replied to DJ Dangerous's topic in General Chat
I find the term 'Box Shifters "very derogatory these are legitimate business who have retail shops and warehouses employ staff and pay taxes and must do whatever they can to survive and compete in some cases with sole traders / e traders who employ nobody , don't have any real overheads some of them are operating from their attic or from under the stairs in the hallway and to them its like a hobby / sideline or a way to make a quick buck . At the start of the online explosion a number of years ago there were loads of these kind of traders no overheads no assets no stock but undercutting the retailers in the same market and a lot of them have fallen by the wayside and many of the retailers now have a very good online business supporting their existing retail offering . If you look at the stock holding of some of there business's and do the math it's a massive undertaking they are anything but box shifters . With IRM entering the market as a manufacture selling direct to the end user as well as to retailer's this is yet another dimension to the marketplace and possibly the future for railway modelling . One thing to bear in mind when discussing Model Shops in Ireland and pricing like it or not ROI is a high priced economy we pay higher wages than in the UK along with other costs and overheads that's the way it is , many a UK retailer has come to the ROI and tried to apply the cost model for the UK and then got themselves in trouble for that reason . A good marketplace is made up of different traders which is good for us all , but calling some of them derogatory terms shows a lack of understanding of the subject . To add to this with the final delivery of the 121 programme by Murphy Models I am happy to have purchased some from IRM , Hatton's , Rails of Sheffield and Marks Models I will always support Murphy Models authorized distributors and legitimate business's . -
This is a great idea and with the arrival of the iconic A class we could see the return of the standing up driver in the cab , a lot of steam men who were retrained from steam to diesel from the mid 1950's and early 1960's had spent a lot of their footplate careers standing , when the A and C class came along they still stood with the fold up drivers seat to lean on , a common sight in the 1970's and 1980's with a lot of the older drivers . With the 121's they had no choice but to sit .

The RRP is are ‘recommended ‘ in a lot of cases it’s an aspirational price if Hattons choose to sell at a different price that is there business decision , if the manufacturer is not happy with a particular retailer selling at a particular price it’s the manufacturers choice to restrict supply to that retailer by reducing the discount the retailer receives or by ceasing to supply them altogether , like any big retailer they have large overheads and with their continued success would indicate that they know their market best and like any large retailer it’s survival of the fittest in a tough market . In a vibrant market there will be many different businesses offering different prices that can only be good for the consumers and manufacturers alike .

Spoiled myself with a bundle of them , that’s bangers and mash for dinner on Christmas Day ! Its nice to see a genuine bargain on Black Friday for a change .

spoiled for choice

Some of the 121 class were operating in Supertrain livery with no MU connections notably 122,123,125, 132 & 133,there may have been more , by 1978 following the conversion of 125 all Supertrain locos would carry the full array of pipework and MU sockets at that stage .

Don’t think he had any interest in trains , he was allegedly a bit of a BR Class 50 when it came to the old cocaine.

As far as i remember about £30 I ordered and paid for the complete kit and they contacted me too say they had no more bogies so I asked them to supply the body only which they did and organised a refund for the difference , I looked at the IFM one but thought the buffers were too high so I got the DC kits one instead .
-
B135 is an EMD 2 stoke diesel it will burn it anyway
-
Sorry about that
-
Is that one of the later 1960 built 3148-3152 heating vans with the inward opening doors with a 1909 series laminate brake and a (1964 built) Craven with battery boxes fairly new and possibly a Buffet car and full first too .
-
Great job Noel , you don’t need boilers on these as they were removed during the conversion to EGV .
-
I got one recently from DC kits but it was just the body I think that’s all he had left , I got the bogies from silverfox and made the chassis myself.
-
In the 1980’s for long periods they were paired numerically this then became whatever was available.
-
Yes , there are a couple more I’m sure , the snatchers are not perfectly correct on the B121 and B135 , however these are minor niggles a lot of these can be corrected easily enough and do not take away from the fact that these are an absolutely superb model , none of the other models 141 , 181 071 and 201 had so many modifications / variations on the original locos as the 121 class no handrail / handrail, std centre window/small centre window , MU socket / no MU socket, vent on side skirts / no vents on side skirts , door vents / no door vents , blanked out cab windows, roof aerials , then add all the liveries, you can see why it’s taken so long to deliver this project , a lot of model manufacturers or commissioners would have run down the road screaming at the thought of taking on the 121’s , but Paddy Murphy took on the project and has acquitted himself superbly in fairness.
