  1. Going through my small A class fleet I have CIE 018 ,CIE 027s, IR007s and IR056 the latter being the same , I decided to take the plunge a change IR007s to CIE007 this fits the early 1983/84 snatchers removed and CAWS fitted but no 'S' prefix.
  2. Lets hope so as they will be running out of room in Inchicore to store all these mistakes !!!
  3. I don't think Kildare, Protarlington and Athy were served with bagged cement but bagged cement would have certainly passed through on occasion. The bagged cement ran to Wexford towards the late 1990's early 2000's from Waterford arriving from Dublin North wall as part of the nightly liner . Places like Cork . Ennis,Clonmel ,Thurles receiving bagged cement trains up to the early 2000's.
  4. Here is a B&W of one of the later Heating Vans with inward opening doors in green

  10. I would imagine there will be more Freight transported in the boot of my saloon car between now and 2040 then will be generated for the railway as a result of this report .
  11. Wink Wink Nudge Nudge Know what I mean!
  12. Some out of the box
  13. I did sonething similar by adding a 1mmx1mm piece under the roof to have the same effect .
  14. For those of you who have access to the IRRS photos on Flickr there is a great picture of 18828 a CIE H van one of the 18762-18861 batch built 1958 , 18828 was one of 15 fitted with vacuum brakes 1961/62 and pressed steel ends and sliding doors , a forerunner of the 1964 introduced Palvans 26000 but the dimenions are more similar to the standard H van , the 18762 series were painted green with flying snail black ends for their use on passanger trains , eventually they would be painted standard grey.
  15. I dont know the dimensions but they were certainly higher
  16. A cuddly toy and a fondue set ?
  17. A number of ex CIE coaches were disposed of in that quarry .
  18. In Inchicore waiting for Uri Geller to put in an appearance and lay his hands upon it .
  19. Yes your probably correct but at the time there was a big imperative to keep the skilled workforce and craftsmen at Inchicore employed and where they could they built them in house , I think the E421's were the last locos built at Inchicore. I was talking to an electrician from Ballyfermot who worked in Inchicore in the 1960's when I asked him about them he remarked that "many holidays and home improvements were paid for with the overtime they got from building the E class" so the wider economy benefited too.
  20. When they are gone they are gone! Hurry up if you want one .
  21. 018 only 3 left , A15 only 1 left, both on the endangered species list too.
  22. There are many books published over the years with a plethora of middle of the road pictures of steam in Ireland they are great because of the rarity of the content with the odd gem in amongst the pictures , this book contains gems of the highest calibure on every page so if you think its too expensive then don't buy it , but if you do buy it you won't be disappointed.
  23. Received my first A class today dispatched yesterday and received from An Post this morning . The loco is simply stunning worth the wait of 3 years .
