Good spot. I was just trying to put up the basics quickly to help him 'til the lads get some info on the site. Now I'll have to go and find a shot of the smaller window on the 121. You're killing me flange EDIT; OK, so here narrow center window on 134 much later in IE livery. Didn't they arrive with the narrower window and was this larger one substituted on some of the locos only?

@RKX Technically, CIE having been formed in 1945 , all liveries of the 121 delivered in 1961 would be CIE. The original yellow and grey livery initially had a flying snail, no handrails, side vent on the body, tablet snatcher etc and this was placed in stages several year later by the Black n Tan livery some of which had handrails or none as they were gradually added. After 1972 the super train livery began to appear on the loco gradually as they were serviced/overhauled over the years following. Grey & yellow usually ran singly whereas (sometimes) BnT & superrtain would run in multiple with each other or 141s Supertrain livery in consist with side handrails, side vent between the 129s over the bogies, body vents on the engines covers, hand rails, tablet snatchers still in place , original small marker lights (replaced in the 2000s with LEDS) window on the 'back' overlooking the bonnet side of the cab) still in existence Photo Jeremy Chapter Flickr BnT livery, no side handrails on B127 (yet) most other things per the loco above except this this has sand filler boxes on the 'rear' of the bonnet (nearest that coach) that were removed at various times (not on ST livery above) Brian Flannigan Flickr (1971) 122 in ST 1987 (just before IR livery introduced) Neil Smith on Flickr

It's official designation is a 0-4-4 BT (back tank, which is very rare, I don't know of any others personally) as they water tank was at the base and rear of the loco cab.

I agree with you that the closeness and black couplings look better and highlight the brown hook nicely. I ordered some of the IRM cosmetic couplings with my Keg liner. I wonder if they could be added in brown to improve the illusion. Unfortunately they left Peterborough 13 days ago but only left Heathrow last night, what they were doin with them I have no idea! Any way, I'm going to give see how they work. I though some of the rakes had a close coupling bar (again in brown but that could be blackened also)

George, at the end of the day this is a hobby and much as we all love it, I'd trade my entire collection for my little one if push came to shove. I'm glad you got a good price for the loco which softens the blow a little, I hope. Stay safe, K

George, I think I'll send you a spare 143 to offload for me!. Make sure the excess proceeds to to a life preserver for the kayaker

True, that's what I've been saying. The only way you'd do this is if the tooling is owned, available, still intact enough for an additional more limited run. But if what Wrenneire is saying above is correct your loco might still be expensive for a loco that might not quite be as cutting edge as the A class or 121 and comparisons WILL be made
-
Maybe someday, yes I agree. It's hard to gauge future demand although thankfully greater availability of any model creates its own demand as I have said before. The question would be whether production would be economically viable and whether the loco would have competition. If 141s became available in the morning I probably would not rush to buy them if I had to compromise on what else I had to purchase... 17 A class variant liveries to choose from and a dozen 121 class would be way higher on my list. Easy for me to say I have sufficient 141/181s which took me quite a while to acquire second hand after they had 'sold out' many years before. Would I like to see a new 'second generation' 141 with lights sound, speakers better access while retaining all the fine running characteristics, .. sure! Say they were available, but there was also CIE/GNR railcar several liveries, possibly intermediates coaches, some laminates, PRs, maybe rtr GSR/CIE steam loco, I still hold off on a new batch of 141s unless funds were unlimited. Now, there are others out there that may have just come to Irish modeling even more recently that don't even have a single 141 and would like a bunch. When the original 141s were produced there much less rtr 'competition' out there. I don't think that is the case in the golden era of Irish modelling. Anyway, production is way above my pay grade, so as you say, I'll leave it to MM, IRM and others to figure all that out. Anyone else who wants to jump into the market, sure, go ahead if you've done your research i say

I have one and its always good to have things with peculiar loads like the planks. @leslie10646 Meant to get a 10T GSWR brake at the time also. Any kits left? PM me

Just to be clear, I'm not saying at all that the 141 are not excellent locos. I have all of them and some renumbered for my era but this thread is about doing a rerun of the 141 /181 in particular, and whether that might be a viable proposition or not at some point is the subject that Mark was broaching
-
I think the post is pretty clear, you've basically reiterated what I was saying with a few personal desires. Think we're saying the same thing mostly.
-
Not the worst we've seen by a long shot though Oblique view without the locos shows it a bit better but not the photo I'm thinking of in my mind, I think Refueling at Sligo after the shed went https://www.flickr.com/photos/152343870@N07/27362877118/in/photolist-orPQdK-PUVGJD-Sm4eUY-29UA489-PotiUi-23rMxTv-obRyej-HFhiom-24s1rJB-HFXU4q-9KbDLw-2iqxe16-ovnzPp-dBrXgm-Vc4zVQ-2diAcS9-UxJomv-UxJmW6-2bZqHpK-bvAmpE-UxJotz-9K8Ruv-9K8QNH-bLwwND-obKinR-os797n-oaCygP-oaCxHe-9K8Rjv-obJkCq-osWF6X-9KbEfj-oe8CRL-otAiAb-ouYKta

I think there is a better shot somewhere in my faves but I cannot find it on Flickr Faves right now

I wouldn't have thought that it would be viable to do a full run several models in 4 liveries for the 141/181, 9000 models as Dave says. I thought when people referred to a rerun, they were talking about maybe one new unweathered number in each livery which might give you 2000 models which is a lot to sell. If modelers wanted more they could renumber or weather to their needs. If the Chinese do not want to do less than 2k units in a run, that would potentially be problematic not just for a MM rerun but also so other niche models like JM designs may wish to do or some of the 1970s wagons such a magnesites or barytes ever seeing the light of day. Does this mean that the Chinese are saturated with injecting enough plastic for the world that they're now able to dictate what's worth their while on a bigger scale and will this bring in another workforce to undercut the Chinese just as this work previously moved to China from Europe and the Americas? EDIT: Forgot to say that then there is buyers expectations and comparisons being drawn with state of the art locos such as the upcoming A if the original tooling was used and available. Many would not want to have to fiddle with tiny switches or have to install aftermarket sugar cube speakers or remove the cab only for it not to fit back perfectly and expectations would lead to comparisons still being drawn between something designed recently and nearly 2 decades ago

I might not be running this one in RPSI condition but I am glad to hear this as I was wondering some time ago how they RPSI was faring in our current pandemic restricted society. Nonetheless I will be ordering one to support this effort. Well done Murphy Models for supporting the RPSI !

If there is control and maybe a vaccine, that's a possibility but tbh I don't think there will be enough (if any) of the latter by then. There's the possibility of a second wave of virus in the autumn (but honestly it would be nice if there was enough societal common sense where I live to get the initial wave under control ...... there's not!)
