  1. My memory is of just two coaches, with no van. One coach was certainly a corridor compartment, because we used to travel in that. But! My memory has been proven to be wrong in the past, so there may well have been a van.........
  2. Excellent! So, there's a good chance that it was these coaches that would have been used in the late 70's, early 80's? Could both of them be used without a van?
  3. Yes, it worked! Do you know if either of those coaches was a corridor compartment?
  4. Yes, it's the Ballina, Co. Mayo branch... but I can't find the photo you mention. I'll keep trying!
  5. I just stumbled upon this one. Some nice shots of Claremorris. Not all of the photos are rail related, but keep scrolling anyway..... http://www.flickriver.com/places/Ireland/Mayo/Claremorris/search/
  6. Thanks for that, John! From memory, there were only the two coaches, so the storage heaters would account for the lack of a van.
  7. Reading this, I am now wondering if it was one of these which was used on the Ballina branch, along with a van......
  8. Sorry to hijack your thread, Noel, but I have a very similar question regarding corridor compartment coaches. My question is what coaches were used on the Ballina branch in the late 70's, early 80's? All I remember is it was two carriages... one was an open coach, and the other was a corridor compartment. I assume there was also a van, but I don't remember anything about it. I do remember they were hauled by an 001 class. The branch train worked all the way to Claremorris back then, with no stop at Manulla.
  9. All three NIR GM locos were used on cross border enterprise up until they were replaced by the 201's. 112 was on loan to IE for a number of years after that, which is when it got the orange marker lights and window frames, which are detailed on MM's model. All three are still in NIR's possession and are used in NI..
  10. Another minor difference in the two CIE liveries is that the 'as delivered' livery had the headlight surrounds painted in the same shade of orange as the rest of the loco. Generally, CIE painted the headlight surrounds white on their locos, and the 071's got white surrounds when they were repainted.
  11. Another bit of advice is, if you find something you like on eBay, have a look and see if it's also available on amazon. Amazon will post a lot of stuff with no delivery charge, which can be a big saving....
  12. That kit is very reasonably priced! For little more than the cost of the Lidl one, you get something far more suitable for modelling work

  14. All the locos seem to be unboxed, and there's no mention as to weather the detailing packs are included or not. And, his name and address are there for all to see, in the seller information at the bottom of the eBay page....
  15. Who knows what it was... but just like Garth Brooks concert, it kinda came off the rails...
  16. Good news! And it's good to hear that the standard Bells were successful enough to warrant further production!
  17. They're still available from Silver Fox....... http://silverfoxmodels.co.uk/ir-ie-001-class-a-class-co-co-metropolitan-vickers/
  18. SSM also do a detailing kit for the A class. Now would be the time to add it, before painting, if you were interested... http://www.studio-scale-models.com/ACkit.shtml
  19. An O Gauge 001 ..... I assume it's a scratch build
  20. I was here wondering who Flying Scotsman 4472 is............
  21. £125 in Hattons. The postage will be cheaper than from Rails of Sheffield.....
  22. The Sulzer looks good! No doubt the weathering helps. Can you talk us through any other modifications you applied? The buffers is one thing I noticed..... Maybe some shots of the Silverfox and SSM Sulzers side by side...
  23. Some nice stock there! Another layout thread to keep an eye on.....
  24. Has anyone replaced the 10mm wheels on their Cravens with 12mm?
  25. Sorry to hear of your loss Seamus.
