  1. Bachmann have announced the 69 and Cavalex have announced the 56... Hornby one although a nice model is now far too expensive (Latest RRP £218) and they dont seem too bothered with making the Romanian versions again (56001-030), which sell for far too much when they pop up on ebay and elsewhere. Open goal for another manufacturer to make what people want for a more reasonable price with current levels of detail, sound, lighting etc
  2. A tamper or possibly the MPV out laying sandite, does a nightly wee hours tour of the Dublin commuter lines during leaf fall season
  3. The Model Railway Society of Ireland are proceeding with our plans to host our Bi-Annual Model Railway and Hobbies Exhibition, so save the dates for 2022! Venue: Saint Paul's College, Sybil Hill, Raheny, Dublin 5 D05 C673 Date: October 29th, 30th and 31st 2022. (Sat. Sun. Mon.) We are closely monitoring current Government restrictions and will comply with all instructions issued by them, but for now we are planning to go ahead in October 2022 All Show information etc is HERE - https://www.modelrailways.ie/events/exhibition-2022
  4. Its the Hornby R076 one, still available if you look around
  5. Its detailed in the ITG's 'Traction and Travel' books, I know the 3rd edition has lots of info, published around 1997 There were a few proposals made on how to dispose of them, including the above mentioned placing inside a tunnel, offshore disposal at sea, 'controlled' dismantling locally and then burial of the removed Asbestos, and transporting the stock to England for incineration. The quarry was the cheapest and easiest option. Recall seeing pics when the quarry was drained a few years ago, the remains of the various coaches and railcar bodies were still visible
  6. The mad thing is, collectors turn their noses up at plastic as it does not have the required 'heft'. This could explain why the likes of oxford diecast and base toys/classix etc still make their models in diecast. A throwback to Dinky/Hornby Dublo days, only now are we seeing a few diecast bodied model railway locos again due to needing the weight but also loads of electronics needed inside... Explains why the Murphy Models 1916 set didnt fly off the shelfs, despite being stunning models, they just were not heavy enough for some. Even though the Rapido bus has both working lights and poseable axles, never mind the detail its not diecast, so therefore wont do for many. In time this will change though

And we are surprised? Great advertisement for the current rpsi regime it must be said. And im a former working member before anyone gets all 'well join and do something about it'
  8. Market rate alas, problem with UK sellers now is that a lot of them wont sent outside of the UK due to the 'B' thing. Best to ask before the auction ends / clicking buy it now
  9. It still bears a scar or two from this incident today
  10. Don't forget that was an unwanted child from the GNRB breakup, and as said above from a steam mindset also. Kept failing as it had to be at a complete standstill before the reverser could be engaged to change direction - unlike a steam loco, drivers used to handling steam did the same with it, and used to blow the control circuits. Its German roots so soon after WW2 meant it would never have visited the UK, never mind its bigger loading gauge holding it back. Being the black sheep of the larger family didnt do it any favours, despite its impressive performance
  11. 3 on order, cant wait. As good as the A's and Deltics are, this is what I'm waiting for. Will be the most advanced locos ever made in OO scale too......
  12. One less night to go to the pub
  13. Be great if it happened, there was an attempt made a few years ago around the Laois area which didn't work out sadly. With the right determined people anything is possible. A lot more to a club than playing with toy trains. At least now with the sheer amount of RTR available there has never been a better time to get involved.
  14. Imagine the outcry - and the pleasure. Watch this space

Correct, plus the usual facebook heroes wanting to restore it to mainline condition. Was originally preserved in place of 001 by Irish Rail but quickly turned in a spares box for 003/039

    Customs & VAT

Hattons are registered in Ireland for VAT so anything you order directly (not using the locker service) should arrive promptly
  18. Would have taken at least an hour if not two to winch it out of the plane and onto the trailer, need to keep everything reasonable level so nothing was damaged, not at least the plane If they were needed for freight they would all be out and about. Its a clear indication of how much freight has been lost down the years Not that important in the bigger scheme of things, 121 was one of, if not the first EMD loco to be exported to Europe and it was not preserved for this reason, despite rumours to the contary
  19. After previously saying that they would have it in May and never Easter again . Easter is the wrong time and there was me thinking WMRC had learned after a few times....
  20. Heard your shoutout, good music to play trains with

    Customs & VAT

And as if by magic my stuff turned up, nothing to do with charges ultimately, just the sheer amount of stuff caused it to do laps of D12 for the guts of a month So as clearly proven, if you want it soonish, courier - DHL,DPD,UPS etc. Take the hit, its just how it is now alas, back to pre 1992 days
  24. Just the way it has gone now alas. The late and much missed Jim Bayle used to do repairs, but even he used to roll his eyes at people wanting to fit DCC to Triang Princess's....
