derek Posted September 18 Author Posted September 18 The ol crane is pretty c****py now that I see it close up. It was a real rush job, and boy doesn't it look it? I am happy enough with the black parts (arm, cable and grab) but the cab and base are heading for the bin. The design came straight out of my head, so if any of you could provide me with pics of something more true to life, I would be eternally grateful. Quote

This kind of thing was popular in my day and they generally looked a bit rough. 1 1 Quote

derek Posted September 24 Author Posted September 24 Jaysus! The King Edward fairly whips it down the incline. Couldn't reach the controller to slow it down and film at the same time Thought it was gonna fly off the layout at one stage 1 1 Quote
derek Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 Finally had a go at pouring the water for my river. (did a pond in the town too but that's a story for another day. -No landscaping or anything there yet). Took two boxes of W/S deep pour water- stuff doesn't go far. Made some bullrushes and reeds for along the riverbank. Made the rushes from 0.35mm fishing line, dipped in glue to form a "head", then brown paint. Reeds were just very small rips of green plastic. Stuck them in DAS clay and painted same colour as river bed Then came the moment of truth................ 12 2 Quote

irishthump Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Looks really good! By the way, bristles from a brush make really good reeds and long grass. 1 1 Quote
Tullygrainey Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Like the river Derek. That water is very convincing. 1 1 Quote

I actually went down that road at the beginning, with bristles. I tried ones from a yard brush and they were way too thick. Probably should have tried some from a paint brush or the like. Remember you saying that the beads of styrofoam get stuck for ever after using them. I thought I had gotten them all but if you look under the bridge in the last photo, you will see I actually didn't get them all. Two little feckers hiding on the bank 1 Quote
