ttc0169 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Nice work there gm171-look forward to the finished wagon. Quote
gm171 kk Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 This is the donor wagon. http://www.newmodellersshop.co.uk/images/Trains/wagons/r6425-container-wagon-2x30ft.jpg It is handy enough to build if you have the time as it is really a box on wheels. By the way it isn't the right length if you cut it down to the extent I did but it still looks well. Quote
Riversuir226 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I ve drawings for the fertiliser if you want them. Those freightliners are very handy for scratchbuilding a lot if the freight bogie stock. Quote
gm171 kk Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 That would be great Riversuir226. Yes I had originally bought them for conversion into the container flats but I just decided to make something a bit more attractive. Quote
Hunslet 102 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Great work with the fertilizer wagon,it looks the part Quote
gm171 kk Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) Here are another few pics of my scratch built fertiliser wagon. It is awaiting the final coat of paint, decals and hinges and locks on the doors. For this I am thinking of using maybe some wire and more plastic card. The containers were put on the wagons for weight purposes as the MIR wagons curve into the middle which makes one set of wheels on each bogie rise off the track causing derailments. Riversuir226 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Looking good Sean, keep up the good work Quote
enniscorthyman Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 That's a great effort Sean on the fertaliser. Quote
scahalane Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Great job on the fertilizer wagons, a nice scratch build project, well done. Quote
ttc0169 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Nice work Sean-well done, the Fert wagon looks great. Quote
gm171 kk Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) I picked up a pretty cheap Hornby KFA wagon at the Cork fair last Sunday with loose buffers and ofcourse I would lose the piece on the way home. So I decided to scratchbuild the piece. Not the most interesting of jobs I know but the workbench has been very quiet. I plan to accumulate a rake of 6 of these wagons which will eventually be converted into the Irish timber wagons. Edited November 9, 2013 by gm171 kk 1 Quote
ttc0169 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Nice work Sean, those bogie wagons will look great as the timber train wagons. Quote
RedRich Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Top marks for the work on the buffer beam and draw hook housing. I love the scene with 082 and 171, very atmospheric as Des has said. Rich, Quote
Kirley Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Looking forward to seeing your Timber Wagons develop, keep the pictures coming please. Quote
gm171 kk Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 Thanks lads. I am also in the process of building a pair of MIR bubble cement wagons, the older version I think. 1 Quote
gm171 kk Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 Thanks Sulzer201. I started making some Guinness keg cages today to fill my MIR flats planning to make about twelve and I ended up with three. 1 Quote
Sulzer201 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Hi GM looking back this morning over the thread and the builds are all very impressive. Love the beer keg flats, the ferts and the CIE trucks. Those bubbles are also brilliant - well done. Great inspiration here for someone like myself trying learn a few tips and tricks. Quote
Rialto Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 HI, The trucks, fert, and bubbles have to me my favorites. Thanks for the bubble Idea, I have been thinking of making a rake of these, but the hinge kinder egg was a stumbling point. Using the ends with a piece of pipe is an idea I'll borrow. Thanks. Quote
gm171 kk Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Thanks lads. I finally got the SSM level crossing kit built. Here's another pic of the scratch built beer cages painted and a pic of the row of six cages together being built. I hope the bendiness of the wire won't be so noticeable once they are painted. 1 Quote
enniscorthyman Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Impressive work Sean, and great job on the beer cages. Quote
Glenderg Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Very tidy work indeed. Are the kegs MIR also or scratchbuilt? The ssm level crossing looks wonderful. Top drawer at stuff. R. Quote
gm171 kk Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Thanks lads. The kegs themselves are made by MIR. I can't wait to see the level crossing painted and put in position on the layout, it will no doubt add a bit of "Irishness" to it. 1 Quote
gm171 kk Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) Here's a video and a number of pics of the finished loads for the Guinness wagons. Usually these wagons derail with the Murphy 201s because of the 201 couplings. Edited December 30, 2013 by gm171 kk 1 Quote
Glenderg Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Hubba hubba! Wobbly wires be damned, they look bang on to the prototype! Quote
BosKonay Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Absolutely right looking! Lovely job! Quote
gm171 kk Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) SSM level crossing all painted. I'm working on filling in the section of track now for the crossing to sit on. Edited December 31, 2013 by gm171 kk 1 Quote
