irishthump Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 Apparently all this stuff is up for grabs..... Lambert Smith Hampton | Assets of Llangollen Railway Plc (bidspotter.co.uk) Quote
Mayner Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 The realities of operating a heritage railway in 2021 It looks like the company that operates the 8 mile long Llangollen Railway had to cease trading and call in the administrators https://www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/19235853.llangollen-railway-administrators-advanced-negotiations-potential-buyer/ 1 Quote
jhb171achill Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 Sad. Travelled on it a few years ago - an amazing line. If they're up for grabs, we'd need to know if they are DC or DCC. 1 Quote

Yes and all of the coaches had Hornby style tension lock couplings Insulfrog points so walk away 1 Quote
murphaph Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Yes we also travelled on it in 2017 it was. A lovely setting and I'm sure a big loss to the wider area. It was definitely a tourist attraction for the town. 1 Quote
NIRCLASS80 Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Just a note to say the railway has been saved by the trust and will hopefully operate again before the end of the summer. Also I believe they are hoping to buy some of the auction stock so hopefully no one else bids and it gives them the cheapest restart possible! 2 Quote
murphaph Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Oh that's great news. Fingers crossed they can buy their stuff back as cheaply as possible. Quote

Galteemore Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 That can’t have helped, but it seems to have been their contract engineering business that dragged them down. Read the Patriot new-build forum to see what kind of work the Llangollen chaps had been churning out - it wasn’t always top notch to put it mildly Quote
StevieB Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 The failed PLC was just one element of the Llangollen Railway. It was not the operator of the railway but provided items of rolling stock, together with engineering services. It was the commercial failure of the latter that caused its collapse. Thankfully a way forward has been found. Stephen 1 Quote
airfixfan Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 The Engineering business were being sued by the SRPS who won their case for poor work and were awarded substantial damages that contributed to the Compamy being wound up. Quote
