  1. As a general rule of thumb, I run a dropper to the centre of each (adjusted) electrofrog point, and to every length of track (normally to each 'standard' 3 foot length of peco flex, but also to shorter pieces). The result tho is spectacular. My little 040 Sentinel can shuffle along over the entire station throat at speed step 1 without a failure.
  2. The more wierd the more wonderful!
  3. On cable, I used Multicore security cable,2x18awg,PVC152m for droppers and connecting accessory decoders to motors, etc. Eco wire 12awg 65/30 red 600V (and black) – will be the main and accessory bus wires(from Radionics)
  4. 40x10! Pictures please!!
  5. LOL some loading issues there I foresee :)
  6. Thanks Dave, every time I take a photo like that, I feel the temptation to rip out all my dodgy ply and have you round to bring the terminus boards up to the standard of the rest of your install!!
  7. Wow± Practically brand new too!
  8. Wow - that looks bang on!!
  9. Photos relaly highlight the mess, the unstuck down platforms, the unfinished ballast, the unevenness of the boards!
  10. Some views of the new Enterprise rake at Platform 4
  11. Ohh very smart!!
  12. This stuff is very handy, you can use it to fill gaps, pour into spaces and even glue in 'sheets' to the underneath of chassis http://www.ebay.ie/itm/LIQUID-WEIGHT-FREE-FLOWING-WEIGHTING-SYSTEM-FOR-MODEL-RAILWAYS-AIRCRAFT-BOATS-/400562211820?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item5d435e4bec Very handy for filling up tenders too to add weight and improve pickup connection...
  13. Fascinating insight!
  14. Got mine today - well gorgeous they are±! Will try have them 'modeled' in a bit
  15. I've added weight and applied Bullfrog Snot to my A's. It's not perfect but it helps. Maybe some day St. Paddy will bring us an all wheel pickup all wheel drive diecast chassis'd A class
  16. GSR (Ireland) SENTINEL locomotive No. 1, Great Southern Railways, Ireland. Rly Mag., 1928, 62, 134. illus. Illustration—no text. GSR Class 280 M1 WN 6846-7/1927. RN 280-1. 2ft 6in driving wheels (chain coupled). 6¾ x 9in cylinders; 5.1ft2 grate area and 71ft2 total heating surface. They had several braking systems: steam, hand, counter pressure and vacuum and were very similar to the Sentinel railcars. Clements and McMahon (pp. 257-8). They were sent initially to Cork and Tralee, and one was tried on the Castleisland branch. They both were then sent to Limerick where they worked the Market siding until in closed in 1940. They then remained out of use until withdrawn in 1948

  18. just gorgeous!
  19. As you say Weshty, not encouraging at all, the Fry, at best, might remain boxed up a few more years...
  20. Somewhat worrying post from 'Sheldrake' over there: Friends We have commissioned a feasibility study from an expert in the world of finance on the future prospects of the Malahide project. It makes for interesting reading, and is accompanied by actual projected revenue and expense streams. I won't post those for obvious reasons, but they are available to serious players if required. The executive summary is hereunder: 1. During 22 years at Malahide Castle, the museum was not viable as a stand-alone operation. Direct income exceeded direct expenses but a notional net loss was incurred after absorbing cost of administrative support from Dublin Tourism and 7/24 security provided by Fingal Council. 2. Casino site is not fit for purpose. Existing building is entirely unsuitable. A minimum 10,000 sq ft new building will be needed to house static museum and working railway, and to satisfy health & safety. Grounds are too small to provide adequate car and coach parking, plus complementary landscaping. Access problems from busy main road. Existing traffic congestion in nearby Malahide village. 3. Facility will constitute a radical change of use for location, implying community resistance. Planning/ NIMBY-type objections may result in costly delays during pre-commissioning phase. 4. Assuming project commences first quarter 2013 and there is no undue delay, commissioning would be unlikely before 2016. Capital cost estimated at € 2.3 million. Delay beyond 2016 will result in escalating holding costs. 5. Gaffney bequest to fund Casino project is €1.5 million. Opening by end 2016 will incur a minimum capital shortfall of €800,000. 6. For income projections, a target figure of 75,000 visitors pa has been projected. Note this is believed to be 3/ 4 times average annual numbers in years 1988-2010. Projections include a discount factor to recognise customer resistance at higher ticket price levels. 7. Projected operating budget shows annual trading losses of € 330,000 to 400,000. Note that this result may be impervious to additional promotional support ie increased advertising cost would offset increased revenue implying market saturation. Circulate at will.
  21. Who owns the Fry Collection: Dublin Tourism The others are more mysterious
  22. Is it me, or does the whole thing just smell of political footballing. Is there anyone involved with actually a plan?
  23. http://www.enjoymalahide.com/home/all-about-malahide/fry-model-railway-casino-building-malahide/ Due open this summer no less
  24. I can see the casino getting restored over the next few years but the try, to do it right, would need another couple of million on its own.
