@RobThere are some card kits out there and C-Rail intermodal has some undecorated 40ft cubes but I would check with @Arran on this forum to see what he has in mind to do next. They are not my era but are a nice looking container to be sure. There are also some curtain side trucks and tractor-trailer units in that livery that might fit nicely in the freight yard for a bit of interest

Obviously didn't understand the implications of the IRM/Accurascale setup with Brexit. What is happening post March and with the A class due about that time? But the center container lugs are not removable to allow a 40ft to sit on a 2x 20ft wagon? SO there were two sets of tooling for this portion of the 42ft chassis?

Ho Ho Ho it's the season to be jolly....

So just the one kidney left then? Tough choice! A class or 121s? Sure, dialysis will take care of the rest -
I think the IRM lads said they 'd all shipped. The arrive app is useful. You get a link by text , click on it and you can see the order contents and set push notifications iirc

I'd take a GSV or two but to be honest, I'm hoping that IRM will finally turn to coaching stock and will provide some of the CIE built coaching stock from the mid 1950s. The wooden coaching stock lasted for a very considerable period mixed with themselves, Park Royals, Cravens. It wasn't until after the Buttevant rail disaster that a moratorium was placed on these with the eventual introduction of the Mk3 stock in the late 1980s. Just providing the stock will improve interest in this era and they would be purchased in short and long rakes. It would be nice to have authentic coaching stock that would have been hauled by late steam and just about every IRM A class livery that is production right now (actually I might be needing some GSVs after all). Need to head off for a lottery ticket myself soon ... Still operating in 1986 although I'll admit that the brakes, catering and TPOs may have lasted longer than some of the coaches themselves

Same for US with these probably one of the last orders to be made and hence shipped. Incidentally why did they ship from the UK?
-
Don't worry, Arran. Old style is good . I have some of yours that I purchased previously and will order some more. The biggest problem now is getting things more in a 50s/60s style than in a post 80s setting. Wasn't as aware of the MOL but it does look nice so probably get some of how those too There wee 20 ft B&I in a much older style logo if I remember correctly. posted on another thread here IIRC. I will repost if I can find.

Now that's what I'm talking especially the single centrally loaded flat, and of course as has been said an empty flat rake in itself looks great One thing that C-rail don't do is a B&I container, so well done on that front!
-
Fran, my preference would be to see new flats with new numbers and different containers perhaps a 40ft CIE and 20ft Bells maybe one with a reefer. People who wanted more than one rake might appreciate the opportunity to swap/resell the original for the new ones which would suit both the seller and those that have missed out on the 'current' run. Different containers would allow greater variety for a more authentic rake. As Mayner points out the 20ft cubes were more prevalent on (say) the Cork liner with heavier more compact goods versus larger volume goods which needed 40ft boxes. For those modeling an earlier period 20ft cubes were also more prevalent than the larger boxes which became more common with time and as the freight traffic grew. Hope we can see some of the earlier 4w freight wagons that would take the 20ft cubes at some point. There are to be more ballasts in presumably the CIE era (versus the more modern previous run) to suit the CIE and IR ploughs? I rather hoped we might see more ballasts in the form of the dolomites or a derivative such as the magnesites. I don't need to but I' d probably sell on my ballast to someone who desired them more than I if that happened. My own particular interests; it would be nice to see a 'Project 20' with things that ran on the 10-14ft wheelbase for those modeling an earlier period and given the increased interest that seems to be expressed in Irish outline maybe even a limited run of more specialized wagons such as barytes, magnesite, dropside cements? Not looking for any production guarantees here , just some thoughts since your 'asked'

He's referring to the phraseology in my post above. No one was 'berated'. I was referring to his eBay handle andy13052004. If he happens to be Andy or happens to be a forum member or known to someone on the forum then sorry.

Those kids didn't have a railway set

I saw that and honestly it's not even worth posting this. Shame on Andy. Must be hoping to get some estate cash for Christmas 2020 (if he's lucky) Correct! it would apparently be shipped back to Coventry or somewhere and then shipped back to Ireland again. Insane!! At last! I suspect som many things have hit the wallet between Black Friday and comtainers this went a begging. There are only a few left on the IRM site. Like I said, it will all sell

I'd concur with C-Rail recommendation. The models seem to be high quality and I have some of the 20ft Bells and a few others. You could mix 20ft Bells with each other or with some nicely weathered CIE 20ft. You've got four to play with in a single IRM pack, and any spares would sit very nicely on any reasonable version of a a 20ft chassis in a mixed freight rake or just sitting in the freight yard by itself) You could throw win a Bell reefer or two and if you wanted to modify your contained just stick a white roof on one or two 40ft. They don't have any of the small B&I as far as I know. Seem to have been a reasonable few of the freighliner red/whote and red/yellow containers in the 70s. For more modern era lots of other containers and tanktainers that I know very little of plus Maersk, P&O which I like personally but I don't know how many of the letters ran on Irish metals. Look (as best you can) at the variety in North Wall c. 1985 1990s BELL 40s, BELL 20s, some green things I don't know about Bell Reefers did exist although these are still on 20ft wagons in 1975 (Jonathan Allen, you have to click on this one) https://www.flickr.com/photos/152343870@N07/39384766805/in/photolist-f952hQ-d3m2Uf-9XBuxn-QvAJjf-5LSdBW-obuMsN-2cd3GX5-29haG6U-231ie2x-G5VjuU-2d9iNey-2aq1u45-22vbbjb-ejZY4s-23V4YiT-eWTy4Y-27DR9hu-bKaoX4/ They ran with other things tacked on the back https://www.flickr.com/photos/152343870@N07/46038978162/in/photolist-f952hQ-d3m2Uf-9XBuxn-QvAJjf-5LSdBW-obuMsN-2cd3GX5-29haG6U-231ie2x-G5VjuU-2d9iNey-2aq1u45-22vbbjb-ejZY4s-23V4YiT-eWTy4Y-27DR9hu-bKaoX4/ including cement BUBBLES, ( I wonder where you could get those) There were 40ft CIE containers too Surprising date on this one https://www.flickr.com/photos/be216cd1/5596973923/in/photolist-FhX7gr-bvkQxf-K8Pqrp-qFiR1a-22y7aZU-wS6T4q-seY3tt-9zUet6-bhW8g8-bzkFL5-byKfLq-23nqegE-bhpu6T-bMDgKX-crWkjj-C64tbs-Z7TdbL-C64vNS-D7rkTw-YaYwde-Z7TbNq-Z9oaaY-jvZqmi-C64umy-Y7pLxS-5LN96X-o9pgvG-nUP6Lc-Y7pSB5-jvZjM2-YaYxap-Y7pEv1-dXLa2M-C64rhC-9wzXmp/

The 47' wagons were constructed for Guinness traffic in the very late 70s. Was the majority of bogie liner traffic prior to mid 1990s on the 47' wagons (and not on the 42' flats)? What were the dimensions keg cage? I find it difficult to tell 42s from 47s on a rake of wagons. Could the 47' only take 6 pallets whereas the 42' flats could take six? The 4 wheelers used seem to be able to carry three on presumably a 14' wheelbase. What was being used for keg transport prior to the introduction of the 47' flats?
-
Speaking of keg liners, while we refer to them as Guinness liners, some of the transported kegs were for other companies such as Murphy's (albeit with a small market share relative to Guinness). These are labelled as 'Guinness kegs' but one can clearly see the banded ones (on the near right, at least) at the North Esk location in Cork are embossed with Whitbread, one of the successors that purchased the Murphy's brand. The silver kegs in the background may well all belong to Guinness reflecting its superior share of the stout market!

Preorders of IRM Tara Mines Wagon begin this weekend
DiveController replied to Warbonnet's topic in News
I didn't get any of these as I'd prefer to get etc original livery in blue. What's the purpose of the drawbar? I watched the video but they did not appear to be coupled very closely with the bar (or is it closer than the NEM TL couplers?) Is there a cosmetic instanter coupling to attach to the hook (which of course are visible in either scenario drawbar or TLs)?- 188 replies

I'm presuming that was a video. It just comes up as a large blank within the post and no opportunity to link into YouTube or whatever to get it to work (it may not have been posted there, I know). Working on a fairly modern iMac, not sure why this occurs sometimes.... they would have been like this in the 70-2000s EDIT:Apologies the links were duplicated and I cannot find the images again but here's one at least This would be my favorite link from this set with the cement bubbles in tow https://www.flickr.com/photos/152343870@N07/45304021234/in/photolist-8DnoUq-RhQTHW-2ahWmFQ-R5YFfJ-2c2mX9o-2arjFqG-2d9iN6s-oVDn3r-2and6p1-9wzXgn-2hFiC4z-2hEAccZ/ Does anyone have any details on the tarps covering the kegs on this Belfast bound train? Occasionally the bogies were green on the 42' in modern times however ....
-
The colorful spring and other bogie parts are a very recent detail and were not present on any photos of 1970s wagons even when new and unweathered. They would be correct for the spoil wagons of the present century as Fran has indicated above We're down to the last Pack B of Bell continers, all Pack A and CIE containers are gone, just the 20+ packs of B&I container flats left (containers which are not available anywhere else , that I'm aware of)

Horses on the Line
DiveController replied to DJ Dangerous's topic in What's happening on the network?
True. I realize there's not a lot you can do with wild animals which I suppose obliges IE to protect itself in that regard in any case. Fencing heights relative to the surrounding terrain would have to be significant to keep deer off the line. Deer in your radiator or a big Red in your windscreen isn't a lot of fun, saw that in Scotland a few times. Deer tend to be semi-nocturnal which might account for a an in creased number of strikes in the winter months when services operate for longer without daylight. Cattle of course aren't quite as wary or agile as deer unlike the West of Ireland sheep. -

Oh, yes K801. I understand you now. Did the MK2 EGVs have any luggage capacity? The old 4 wheeler heating vans did and I'm pretty sure that most GSVs did. -
Horses on the Line
DiveController replied to DJ Dangerous's topic in What's happening on the network?
What I found most 'interesting' is the requirement for IE to secure its existing (for over a century) right of way and its liability when an animal (which should be secured by its owner) wanders onto its tracks. It would be hard to find another party at fault under these laws. So in addition to any repairs, it has to reimburse the owner of the animals. However, do passengers on IE have any right to compensation for delays and consequential losses even in theory? Is a motorist similarly liable or is that the roads authority? I can understand how when a new road/motorway is built there would be an obligation to secure it from animals if it cuts through existing farmland etc. As for motorists infringing on the IE shared right of way at LCs with more than sufficient warning with lights, barriers, signage, fireworks etc. The mind boggles ...... -
Bell Pack A sold out, next is the CIE containers with only 22 left ( I got a couple extra of them too, very versatile especially the 20ft cubes)

It used to be leaves, and poor animals deliberately tied to the line on the approach to Glanmire Road north of the tunnel. Poor animals and poorer owners! -
OMG, they're out of the boxes, Dave!
