  1. MichaelHC Baker wrote an article in Backtrack about those very coaches
  2. There were some similar signs in Donegal near the Border
  3. Photos of a CDR Class 3 actually pulling a train of any type are as rare as hens teeth! They were intended to be used on the commuter like traffic on the CDR branch from Strabane to Victoria Road. Railway Bylines June edition will have an article by myself on the CDR Derry branch.
  4. Sorry David remember now which brother your father mentioned. Had not seen him for months until today on the Larne Line
  5. Thanks was chatting today to Galteemore Senior today. He mentioned some article about CDR Railcars in Garen Rail magazine?
  6. What is the email address for the person who has taken over Backwoods Models to contact about the Swilly and County Donegal models they used to produce?
  7. From memory yes as it was the last set to get a proper overhaul at York Road
  8. Note the rare later type of hopper windows on this set
  9. Phoenix was well known for short trip workings from Strabane to Lifford and back. Even in the last years the WTT allowed for 3 such workings from Mondays to Saturday.
  10. See this photo of the Sealink set at Whiteabbey
  11. One of the many stations closed in 1963
  12. Sorry for posting photo of the A Class at St Johnston in 1961. Check out your own IRRS Journal 186 instead. At least 1 made it to Derry and a couple as far as Omagh after 1958.
  13. From IRRS Journal 186 confirmed by an ex GNR man who acted as pilot man for CIE staff. [Image removed at request of copyright owner]
  14. For the record an A Class made it to to Derry at least once and to Omagh a few times before the Derry Road closed in 1965.
  15. GNR Railcar A would have been perfect for this duty
  16. Very good article there from Railway Bylines who are now aiming to have an Irish article in most issues now. Was proofing a new CDR article this morning and the June issue will have an article from myself on the County Donegal.
  17. Correct will get a photo when I am down at Larne Harbour again some day this week.
  18. Olderfleet modified but still there 76 was of course River Inver!
  19. Another photo of Larne Harbour
  20. Apogies David got confused with the steam trams. Top one is Cultra In a light green livery that is wrong. The RPSI have made the same error with LPHC No 3 despite LPHC No 1 being in original livery at Cultra See photo below of CDR rolling stock in correct colours at Stranane August 1959
  21. There is also a photo of BCDR 30 in the York Road pant shop around 1961 in UTA in Colour book
  22. Blanche is a bit of a mess and Columbkille is more accurate as both were stored under cover after closure behind locked doors. When Drumboe repairs are completed it will now receive correct CDR Red livery. Doing an article on CDR rolling stock using 1950s colour photos and wagon No 136 seems to have been repainted plus the Hornby style black paint applied There is a good photo of CDR wagons in colour from 1959 in my article on Strabane in the May issue of Backtrack that is just out now. Luckily CDR coach No 1 is in original paintwork.
  23. Too be fair to Cultra the bottom photo of one of two surviving Portstewart Tramway locos is in the correct livery Top photo is of the other surviving NCC tram loco at Hull Museum in a livery closer to the LNER than the BNCR!
  24. What about the LLSR or the NCC Narrow Gauge?
  25. Dread to think what they will do with some of my Swilly material as the film is has already been used at Waterford! My Donegal stuff has featured at Achill already Suppose my DNGR stuff will now make it to Bushmills next with Patrick?
