Glenderg Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Evening All, I took photos of these tanktainers down on the north wall in 2008, and they may or may not be rail related. They would make an interesting respray or scratchbuild project for anyone interested the black stuff. Were they used to transport by road to the UK maybe? If there's any info about, it would be great to have it. Richie. Quote
thewanderer Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I've never seen them on a liner, either in the UK or Ireland. Quote
gm171 kk Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) Not my pics Glenderg but here's a couple more pictures of older ones being used on 4w flats. Edited November 10, 2012 by gm171 kk Quote
BosKonay Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Is it bad that they make me think of a giant can, and make me thirsty? Great shots lads! Quote

Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I remember that little stretch of line as a wee nipper I used to sit and watch trains as me mum did her shopping in Shopping centre which the line ran behind. That lines all gone now I'm afraid Quote
gm171 kk Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I'd love to have a these wagons in model form. Anyone got any more pics of the tanktainers on wagons? 1 Quote
Train model Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Was the sky really that blue or is it air brushed, Quote
Glenderg Posted November 17, 2012 Author Posted November 17, 2012 No its blue. Photo was taken mid afternoon about this time year. The shadow drops severely between photos. Blue skies are more predominant in spring and autumn, but it's definitely blue. Quote
Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 The 2 photos of the tanktainers look to be on the siding in Dundalk station and that looks like the Harp brewery in the back ground with the Cooley mountains just visible to the left Quote

murphaph Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Another thread revival, sorry! Does anybody know where these tanktainers (Harp, Satzenbrau) would have been going to or from? I am assuming it was bulk product being sent somewhere to be bottled or put in kegs perhaps? Were similar containers ever seen around Kilkenny (Smithwicks)? Quote

Were similar containers ever seen around Kilkenny (Smithwicks)? Diageo have a bottling/canning plant close to Adelaide yard in Belfast, so would think that was a possible destination.. There was also a bottling plant in Dundalk, but I am unsure if this is still in operation.. Any pics I have seen of likely tanks seem to be on the Belfast line.. Edited July 9, 2021 by MOGUL 2 Quote
