WRENNEIRE Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 (edited) Finally a 303203W Sundries wagon, I knew I had another one somewhere Anyone recognise the shop? The Green CIE Coach is priced at £2.16 & the Sundries wagon @ £3.10 so I reckon the coach is early 70's while whe wagon is early to mid 80's Edited December 1, 2017 by WRENNEIRE Quote

WRENNEIRE Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 Sell anything to make a buck, man! Speaking of Banana box's Pat I used to store my stuff in large plastic box's but I found that the plastic was wearing away at the boxes contained in them and after a while they became quite worn looking so now I store them in Banana boxes as they seem not to damage the items stored in them And they are a lot cheaper! WRENNEIRE Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 (edited) Speaking of Bray John I managed to pick up a few bits myself Hornby Mk 2A's, absolutely mint, bought in 1977! Possibly the ugliest RTR coach around, and the rarest, Also a couple of Sealink coaches, made in 1987 only, and a very short run produced These have a few miles on the clock So I reckon its always worth going to any show thats available, you never know what will turn up. Warbonnet Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Nice one Dave. Bachmann are currently doing the sealink coaches in their collectors club, a brake and an open I think. £75 for the pair! Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 (edited) Another different version of a Lima "Irish" wagon 303203W Sundries wagon This is the older style box, with a picture of the contents on the side The ones in my collection are in the later box with reference number only on the side There are also some differences with the Lima logo on the front of the box Newer style Box in the centre Edited December 1, 2017 by WRENNEIRE Quote

jhb171achill Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 We've come a long way. In the mid 1970s, I had paper overlays on BR Mk 1's - and VERY crude they were. A BR "Hymek" class 35 was passed off as an NIR Hunslet! Yes, I had a GOOD imagination... Quote

Hornby's horrible hymek doesn't get uglier than this piece of plastic junk, not to mention the plastic day-glo orange mk2s PS: Might try hack modify some of the 70s Lima mk1 rake behind into something vaguely resembling mk1 GSVs Edited July 22, 2017 by Noel Quote

Hi Paul. Sorry the Hornby hymek horror show didn't appeal to me at the time, but within a year or so back then in the 70s I was over the moon with the Lima Mk1s in black and tan and the Lima class 33 which was a quality mould with a good paint job that at least very vaguely resembled a CIE A class. The Lima felt like the bees knees then alright. But I accept 'beauty was in the eye of the 70s beholder', etc. Cheers. Noel Quote

Dhu Varren Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 The first Lima Class 37, 37012 Loch Rannoch, in blue with white stripe, first appeared about March or April 1986. Quote
spudfan Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Used to walk over from Drimnagh with the dog. Kieran McGowan used to give him a bowl of water while I checked out the stock then we'd head home again! Great memories of the shop and Kieran. Always came out with my clothes smelling of pipe smoke. Happy days!!!! Quote
spudfan Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 It sure did-I bought the Lima class 37 (37012) and class 73-(73108) around that time in that shop. The Lima catalogue for 1985/1986 features the above locos plus steam locos and "N" gauge items. I'm rereading it now. From the items featured in that catalogue I bought the following locos. 205108MG 0-6-0 Class 09 shunter. Green 205158MG Class 20. Blue 205174MG Class 33. The Burma Star 205173 Class 37. Green 205169 Class 73.Broadlands 205128MG class 42/43 Warship. Rapid 205142MG Class 50 Eagle 205122MG Class 52. Western Renown 205105mg Class 55 The Green Howards All were still in use here until I got the Murphy Models 071 locos. Whatever is said about the much maligned Lima locos, they give years of service.
