DJ Dangerous Posted Thursday at 09:22 Posted Thursday at 09:22 Don't want to go too far off-topic, as this has been touched on before HERE ON THE FORUM. It would be a good idea, and a nice courtesy, if uploaded images were accompanied by a source url, where not actually taken by the poster. I understand that it my not always be possible - we all have the odd railway related photo on our computer that isn't ours and we can't remember the source. And, in some cases, it's not necessary. For example, an eBay screenshot is going to be blatantly obvious as having come from eBay, and IRM screenshot the same, and so on. A reverse image search in this particular case reveals ONE online source to be: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://twitter.com/gee89n&ved=2ahUKEwjRo6XMqfCMAxUyRPEDHQMRMGMQn5YKegQIERAB&usg=AOvVaw3W9rnWFvoSfy9MlaRWzu6N I can't remember my Twitter password so can't go any further. There's no way of kowing if that is the original source or also a re-publication, but at least we can put in the effort. To do a reverse image search via Google, go to Google Images, click on the camera icon in the search bar, and upload the image that you are trying to find a source for. 1 1 Quote
Markleman Posted Thursday at 14:21 Posted Thursday at 14:21 You are right DJ. i was a bit surprised to have one of my photos taken off this site, manipulated, and then put back on. It still had my site address on it, but after that had been done I was not responsible for how it looked. Nobody could sell books if all the photos were then scanned and put on the internet for free. That was what killed my DVDs off, because as soon as they went on sale somebody just copied them badly off their TV and put them on YouTube. If you own it you can do what you like with it. If is belongs to somebody else then you might be in trouble - Jonathan Allen threatened to charge £1500 a go if his photos are used without permission. 2 5 Quote

Speaking of, not only do I have a few of your DVD’s, I also have a handful of these in the archive! Edited Thursday at 15:32 by DJ Dangerous Fat fingers… 3 2 Quote

Have this collection myself, unfortunately just missing number 1 and 11 of the IR Review series to complete. 1 1 Quote
Niles Posted Thursday at 18:41 Posted Thursday at 18:41 I had them on VHS back in the day (picked up my first in Marks, Vol.2 the West). Have been gradually rebuilding as a DVD collection. It's mad to look back at the Review series and see how the 'new' of the 2000s is now replaced itself in cases like the 8200s. 2 Quote
Markleman Posted Thursday at 18:54 Posted Thursday at 18:54 Thanks for the kind words everyone. Still available folks. If you already have VHS let me know for a great deal on the DVD! 4 1 Quote

Great post and I can so relate and fair play to Jonathan Allen for protecting his copyright, when I raised this issue in 2 FB groups I was instantly banned from 1 group, the other group the admi took issue with me displaying my name across my photos lol, he dug the heels in and started a thread ''copyride'' poking fun, I replied back, the spat continued, anyway long story short, he deleted his thread and I deleted my photos, problem solved, we became ''friends'' after that, he has since passed away. Doesn't cost much to credit photos or videos for photographers work. 1 1 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Yes HG I have had the same problems which is why all my copyright images have 'Copyright Ernie's Railway Archive' plastered all over them and I don't supply un-marked images for free unless its for a Museum or other Preservation group (Don't panic Jim!) It still doesn't stop some people cropping the images which I try to offset by placing the overlay near to the subject. Others even trying to erase the overlay and others moan that it spoils the image when they snip it. 3 Quote

Having used several of your images in books, Ernie, after seeking permission from your good self of course, I must express my great appreciation and full support for your stance. I hope others will respect your rights as copyright owner. 1 Quote

I might leave my slide collection to you in my will. I know you will look after it (!) (!). Seriously though this raises the issue again of what happens to photo (and model) collections when people pass on. In the past several have ended up in the skip. As well as yours there are one or two collections, Charles Friel seems to have a large one which he has allowed me to use with his permission. There are others too, but these too are at risk in the long term. One large collection was loaded on to the Internet and the internet provider then closed down and the whole thing was lost. I have joked about it, but I do wonder what will become of it all, and if anybody cares. Best plan, as far as I can see, is to get the photos into books and the video into DVD and get them out there. Sorry to go even further off topic. Edited 1 hour ago by Markleman I am dozy Quote
