Interesting to see the Lobitos oil storage tanks on the right. I don't recall seeing any photos of Lobitos rail tank wagons in Ireland, although they had some in GB.

Later, Lobitos merged with Burmah, who of course did have rail tank wagons in Ireland, though the terminal was in Cork and I don't think they ever ventured north of the border.

I particularly like the last one with tail traffic on the railcar set. The (distant) leading car is a Bulleid wedgehead.

Thanks, Ernie, lovely clear photos for CBSCR fans. Why on earth, though, have two crossovers side by side on a LOOP? 

Naturally, @Mol_PMB I like the tail traffic too - one of my CIE cattle wagons!

I'd like to see a signal diagram for Clonakilty Junction - it might explain the double crossover.... And it is supposed to be a junction, no?

The 2 tracks in the foreground are 2 seperate single track routes, left to/from Bantry and Baltimore and right to/from Clonakilty so the crossovers are access for each route to the different platforms. Clonakilty had routes to or from  3 platforms whereas the Bantry route only had the 2 lefthand platform lines.

Here is a snip from the Geohive IE Map always a useful source for track plans. THe 'Arrow ' on the bridge handily shows the where the photo was taken from.

That looks very like the Slieve Blooms in the background when viewed from the Portlaoise area.  Picture could be taken out near Clonkeen (Coolnamona) looking toward Ballyfin.

Interesting to see how tidy and, especially litter free the 1950s pictures are. These days we are plagued by the stuff, most of it take away food packaging. Which only goes to show how society has changed in recent years and, let's face it, how lazy society has become...
