jhb171achill Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 A pleasure Heirflick. I notice, looking at it again, the wagon has a painted departmental "A" series number 650A. The example shown in photos at the top of this post has a standard CIE wagon plate (and with a standard 5-digit number), but the above doesn't.... (unless there's a plate on the other side, or my eyesight is suffering from too many years of Guinness imbibing...!)
Broithe Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Dapol still do the old Airfix low loader kit - http://www.dapol.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=118&category_id=23&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=59
popeye Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I got this kit from Dapol, it is very easy to put together. The Excavator is from Wiking 1:87 scale. It is a good fit & 00 scale might look a little large.
Glenderg Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 OoOooooh, that's a tidy piece of work sir. No scale problems that I can see.
heirflick Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 aye...ye didnt waste your time popeye - nice job there.
heirflick Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 heres a way of using old unwanted locos. heres an old hornby lms 040 - that had been dropped several times and dosnt work, on a lomac going to be preserved! still trying out the rusting techniques!
RedRich Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Seamus I've been amazed at how much you have improved as a modeller over the last two years. That's some really great work and should inspire others to try for themselves, well done. Rich,
heirflick Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 kind words! for a long time, fear was a big thing...fear of making a balls of weathering a model - espically if its new! with these old and unworkable items you cant loose!
RedRich Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 kind words! for a long time, fear was a big thing...fear of making a balls of weathering a model - espically if its new! with these old and unworkable items you cant loose! Seamus it's the right thing to do for anyone to put up photos of their work as it is appreciated by the group members, and it is a brave thing to do. Your piece in your last post shows great workmanship and effort. I love the fact that you have also created a scenario or story behind the models. The loco is after being loaded to be taken to a preservation site. Little scenarios like that happen most days in the real world and creating the real world in miniature is what the hobby is all about. It shows effort hard work and imagination as there is always a story behind everything. It caught my eye and I liked it. Rich,
WRENNEIRE Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Couple of small adjustments needed to the Dapol kit Buffer covers need to be removed Brake pipe fitted Buffers enlarged Running number hand painted in the series 647A - 651A
Maitland Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I suspect the brake pipe is for continuity only, and that the wagon itself has only the handbrakes.
Garfield Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I suspect the brake pipe is for continuity only, and that the wagon itself has only the handbrakes. That's certainly the way it looks alright.
h gricer Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Seem to have been used by the engineers to carry a small Priestman crawler crane I remember it very well John, that's the low floor wagon for the priestman crane, it was very active in the Dublin area in the early 90s, used for taking out old rails from disconnected sidings, after Liffey Junction signal cabin closed in July 1991, that priestman crane was used to lift the old sidings, 005 the Aclass hauled it to Liffey Junction. When the crane was withdrawn it stabled in the dardinell sidings in NW with instructions for it NOT TO BE SCRAPPED, was surpose to be going to Downpatrick but I don't know if it ever did. Regards hg
Steve34 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 That wagon is still sitting in the stub of the old Kilkenny line in Clonminam Portlaoise as of today. Looks a bit sad and forlorn although surely it's been earmarked for preservation as lots of wagons have come and gone from that location for scrapping.
