  1. As a rule of thumb, it takes approximately one year for every representative at a rail accident investigation unit inquiry .... (Page 18)
  2. Thanks for posting that. Very interesting! Glad no one was badly hurt and no children run over on the other line. Nice to see the older rollingstock. Super find:tumbsup: I didn't even know that RTE had old archives available now. Now to read that report ....
  3. Actually Ireland is only about 1% of the entire European Union population, so in effect the whole country is actually empty, not just the area outside the Pale. On a positive the note though, the Greeks form about 2%. Maybe we can cut them loose and use those billions of euro to invest in Irish railways?
  4. I believe it was furnished in response to a request for references/resources that now seem to be increasingly 'required' to support either a statement of opinion or fact on the site.
  5. If you like, you could post a photo of the baseboard or diagram of the track plan that you need help with. Let us know what you're trying to achieve.
  6. Thanks, Ben. Enjoying seeing those old buses and the Mark III's in Supertrain livery if only for a moment:trains:
  7. I don't know my NIR DBSOs/DVTs well enough to make out the details of the trains on this archival video as I'm looking at a smart phone right now. The only coach I can make out at the end of the film is probably 931. They seem to have been in the bumblebee livery. http://www.rte.ie/archives/2014/1028/655398-peace-train/
  8. I don't think so if it costs money, the rules can't be frequently enforced, or the workforce is expendable!
  9. Great video! Lots of freight. What's the problem there again, Ted? ........ Eh, I mean, Dave.
  10. Like 3180 TLA here;
  11. Interesting discussion but maybe wandering off the 121 thread here a little. Very lovely model though
  12. The coach in Richie's photo appears to have the number 518A, and is sitting next to 519A. They appear to be departmental stock hence the 'A' suffix as described in the posts above.
  13. In general I think you're correct. New technologies such as 3-D scanning and CAD have helped but execution of the plan with a semi-skilled workforce and poor quality controls is where the problem begins. A significant proportion of toys manufactured in China are recalled usually for substitution of substandard or toxic materials, substandard production or assembly. I am pretty sure this German company had pretty tight control on its quality assurance. I'm not so sure that this has been the case with producers of Irish outline models commissioned in China.
  14. Dave, I think that was me http://www.s-cab.com
  15. God Almighty! This puts a whole new slant on the Clear your Closets thread!
  16. Any photos of the conversions, Ger?
  17. I don't think you ran that search on eBay, Jim but I'd like further information on that particular model if you wouldn't mind passing my number on;) Accessories are included, you say?
  18. What tamper is that, Noel? Is it prototypical of anything that Irish rail would have run?
  19. To avoid any marital disharmony in your household I ran the search for your Baltic railway items. This may be way tamer than you'd hoped for….. Some nice Swedish birds on there Viggen, Grippen etc
  20. One thing that it does is to modernize the user interface which several members particularly Noel have alluded to in the past. Radio technology is already in use for both OO gauge and larger gauges. Not only that but standalone power for the locomotives themselves in the form of rechargeable batteries that have been miniaturized for mobile phones. So when their power fails during a show the loco is the only one to stay running on unpowered rails as it is not at all dependent on the tracks. The cost per locomotive for these is presently too high if you have more than few locomotive, so cheaper to install a DCC system if this is the case. I wonder how well this system works on a larger layout and whether it is a strong enough system to avoid line of sight issues. Using the DCC connector was essential to allow it to to introduced tot the market to compete with existing technology
  21. Layout coming on in leaps and bounds now!
  22. Pretty good going there, Eoin. Looks like about a dozen merged photos. Always hated doing panoramas due to the distortion and lighting variations. Great videos, John. This must have been one of the first PW vehicles after jhb's MOW gangs. No model though, I guess. Would be great from this era. Still hoping for some info on other PW vehicles that were in use by IR to see if something out there could be re-decal'd to fit.
  23. They are designed to fit a Dapol Stanier 60' donor and replace the sides as I understand it. John has some builds if bus coaches on his workbench tales from the carriage sheds
  24. Sorry to resurrect this thread after so long but I would be interested to see any more IR permanent way machines.Did any of these exist before the 70s in CIE/IR days?
  25. Very impressive, Anthony! Seriously, enjoyed that very much. Great motivation for the rest of us to see it.
