  1. The coach in Richie's photo appears to have the number 518A, and is sitting next to 519A. They appear to be departmental stock hence the 'A' suffix as described in the posts above.
  2. In general I think you're correct. New technologies such as 3-D scanning and CAD have helped but execution of the plan with a semi-skilled workforce and poor quality controls is where the problem begins. A significant proportion of toys manufactured in China are recalled usually for substitution of substandard or toxic materials, substandard production or assembly. I am pretty sure this German company had pretty tight control on its quality assurance. I'm not so sure that this has been the case with producers of Irish outline models commissioned in China.
  3. Dave, I think that was me http://www.s-cab.com
  4. God Almighty! This puts a whole new slant on the Clear your Closets thread!
  5. Any photos of the conversions, Ger?
  6. I don't think you ran that search on eBay, Jim but I'd like further information on that particular model if you wouldn't mind passing my number on;) Accessories are included, you say?
  7. What tamper is that, Noel? Is it prototypical of anything that Irish rail would have run?
  8. To avoid any marital disharmony in your household I ran the search for your Baltic railway items. This may be way tamer than you'd hoped for….. Some nice Swedish birds on there Viggen, Grippen etc
  9. One thing that it does is to modernize the user interface which several members particularly Noel have alluded to in the past. Radio technology is already in use for both OO gauge and larger gauges. Not only that but standalone power for the locomotives themselves in the form of rechargeable batteries that have been miniaturized for mobile phones. So when their power fails during a show the loco is the only one to stay running on unpowered rails as it is not at all dependent on the tracks. The cost per locomotive for these is presently too high if you have more than few locomotive, so cheaper to install a DCC system if this is the case. I wonder how well this system works on a larger layout and whether it is a strong enough system to avoid line of sight issues. Using the DCC connector was essential to allow it to to introduced tot the market to compete with existing technology
  10. Layout coming on in leaps and bounds now!
  11. Pretty good going there, Eoin. Looks like about a dozen merged photos. Always hated doing panoramas due to the distortion and lighting variations. Great videos, John. This must have been one of the first PW vehicles after jhb's MOW gangs. No model though, I guess. Would be great from this era. Still hoping for some info on other PW vehicles that were in use by IR to see if something out there could be re-decal'd to fit.
  12. They are designed to fit a Dapol Stanier 60' donor and replace the sides as I understand it. John has some builds if bus coaches on his workbench tales from the carriage sheds
  13. Sorry to resurrect this thread after so long but I would be interested to see any more IR permanent way machines.Did any of these exist before the 70s in CIE/IR days?
  14. Very impressive, Anthony! Seriously, enjoyed that very much. Great motivation for the rest of us to see it.
  15. Hi Noel, For a moment there I thought it was Christmas and you'd filled my mailbox with B'n'T 141s ……… or maybe a pre-production grey and yellow 121. Ouch! Just woke up and cleared some space in the PM Inbox for you and Jim. Didn't want to ask BosK to increase the limits for all the members. Thanks for getting in touch and sorry for dissing your PMs, guys. Would you mind resending? (they didn't drop down when I cleared some space so probably lost in e-limboland). Apologies to you, Nelson, we share the same 'initials' Clicked on that older thread, Jim and had a good smile at the O' Jays;)
  16. =)) Nice little kit, Dave!
  17. He's doesn't open boxes
  18. Kernow's price is way above the odds and DC's at the upper end. These are still available even now. If you bide your time, I'm pretty sure a site member will have one surplus to requirements
  19. Reflected ripples in the Gulf stream suggest that vast quantities of a certain coach may have returned to to the Orient which would certainly explain why no more stock can be sourced by Marks Models so soon after release of an 'unloved' product. That 'being' the case…… well, I'll leave the chinese whispers to Dave
  20. http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/1176-Oil-Tanker-Detailing-kit?p=22202&highlight=Tank+wagon+Burmah#post22202 Some dates on here and references Also search the Irish Shell and BP thread
  21. WOW! Very nostalgic and informative..…and as much in the background as in the foreground for modelers:tumbsup:
  22. He-he
  23. Marks Bachmann sale started when the MM sale ended at the end of May. There was not too much on sale of interest to me when I looked last. I spent a lot on the MM sale but nothing on this as yet. Maybe I'll look again at some scenecraft
  24. From their website "We have highly trained and experienced staff that remain committed to providing a professional and specialist relocation service" I didn't think relocating your art and antiques to the middle of an active double railroad was to be advised especially if your collection of locos and rolling stock is in there!
  25. No, but maybe I can hack the wife's Facebook account:praying: EDIT: question posted there
