  1. Best of luck guys.. does this mean the ammonias are a shoe in for the next project(6??)since very similar wagons ran in the U.K. for ICI?
  2. They look great Noel.. not to be pedantic but any pics I've seen of a rake of bubbles has them ladder end to ladder end rather than all facing the same direction.. I'm guessing it was done to make connecting the discharge pipework easier.. any know?
  3. Hope to be there in person to deliver to IRM tomorrow.. on this one I have a personal interest in having an on time delivery
  4. Was there myself Kieran, Peter smyth had an idea for using the 8200s as unpowered units with the 2700s, which even he thought was a bit pie in the sky.. must have grown wings since then with the 201s being swapped for the 2700s.. on another note, will we see a few more 201s back in the new year.. gone very scarce on PWD and freight work with 071s doing nearly all at the moment..
  5. 20fts in 9ft 6 are very rare so most likely 8ft 6in.. the 10fts could be8ft which was a very common size pre-1980s
  6. Hi Leslie, Would you be interested in selling the container as a separate item, would be very handy for anyone modelleding the weedspray train which still uses one!
  7. Thanks Noel, am familiar with C-rail and have more than a few of their products but unfortunately this isn't one they have
  8. Would anyone have a dapol 20ft container like the EWL livery in the link below that they would be willing to sell or swap for a similar container http://www.hattons.co.uk/26246/Dapol_B776a_Jan_2009_v2_Container_for_Spine_Wagon_Twin_pack_of_20_containers_1_x_Hanjin_dark_blue_1_x_E/StockDetail.aspx
  9. "Road tends to be more cost efficient faster and flexible for less than train load lots. The road transport system has the advantage of being a user pays system where the Government and Insurance companies can adjust fuel, vehicle and road user excise taxes and insurance fees to recover the full internal and external costs of road transport. " Rail and road are very similar in cost for containers, with rail having major benefits such as the ability to pick n drop and not struggling with the availability of trained drivers to the same degree as road.. I doubt that the Irish government recovers full costs of the road network, especially not after taking into account the huge capital expenditures of the past fifteen years.. They are subsidising some toll roads as it is.. "Another big pro in favour of road transport in Ireland is that you can load a truck with butter or cheese at a Co-Op in Cork or Kerry and deliver direct to a supermarket in the UK or main land Europe." This is not an issue with the use of reefer containers, some of the kerrygold going to Europe travels by sea by this method only delivery would be to a distribution centre rather than an individual supermarket "Road vehicle technology is also jumping ahead of rail, with larger more fuel efficient vehicles (HPMV) and GPS based fleet management systems improving roads competitive advantage over rail. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/vehicle-types/vehicle-classes-and-standards/vehicle-dimensions-and-mass/high-productivity-motor-vehicles/" Nice in mainland Europe but not a whole lot of use in the West of Ireland where the roads struggle to handle existing trucks and the drivers know their routes..
  10. I'd be blue in the face if I responded to all the posts like this one Noel but yes rail is commercially viable for its current uses and probably also a few more flows I can think of
  11. Trial is now scheduled to run on Sunday 18/06.. 24 wagons dublin to Ballina only
  12. So instead of the new points and signals being mechanical they would now need to be digitally controlled effectively.. is there any effect on the wagon works, gantry siding or storage sidings on the approaches to the station or will all of these be resignalled?
  13. Just say this promoted online.. Any one know what's involved and if provision will be made for the possible reopening of the Foynes line that has been rumoured for a while http://www.irishrail.ie/limerickworks
  14. Great work Noel.. bit of a random idea and maybe to late.. but could you put the 121 on the MM 141 chassis and then use the athern under the C with new bogie sides.. would save a lot of work methinks!
  15. Funnily enough about 50% of leased aircraft in the world are Irish owned.. i would guess that the rail figure would be lower but there's still probably more Irish owned locos that belong to leasing companies than to Irish rail, NIR, ITG and RPSU combined!
  16. Yup just heard, driver shortage.. hopefully in the next few weeks
  17. Bit of a random question, but where did you get the checker plate plasticard for the cab floor?
  18. The next freight trial will take place next Wednesday, 26th April 2017.. 24 flat wagons running as 20:45 North Wall to Ballina.. The trial will operate as 24 wagons in the down direction only, with the train returning as two halfs on Thursday and Friday.. To facilitate the trial, the CPWs will commence operating on the DFDS liner this Thursday
  19. That's the one! Thanks for those
  20. Would anyone have the schedule for the Marble city railtour for this year?
  21. Just found the piece on the coal, it's in the October 1989 IRRS journal" In July 1989 a new series of coal trains began operating between Dundalk(Barrack Street goods yard) and Arklow. The coal originates in South Wales and is carried in CAWOODS containers to Ellesmere Port, Cheshire by rail and brought by sea to Warrenpoint and by road to Dundalk. The 20ft open top containers are loaded onto four wheelers flats at Barrack street and forwarded to Arklow." It then describes some of the workings and finishes with " The traffic was suspended for most of August during holidays but is expected to resume in September on a fairly regular basis. It is also reported that the loading of bagged coal has commenced in arklow..
  22. I think the coal was inbound to Arklow from Drogheda in cawoods 20ft containers loaded on 4wheel flats.. I was recently reading the IRRS journal that mentions the traffic starting.. I would think the cawoods containers would be available in OO as they were very common in the UK
  23. He would have to tool up for 45fts to do them unfortunately.. Dapol have the right tooling but my attempts to contact them about a commission of IWT containers (in the full orange and revised plainer livery) have been met with stony silence
  24. The IWT promo video is now available on YouTube at I hope the moderators don't mind this being shared here, my intent is not to promote the company but to share some excellent footage from inside Dublin Port
