  3. Anyone thinking of bashing the Roco model should bear in mind that it's die cast, so you'll need a rotary tool to aid with the cutting and grinding. You'll also need a mask to avoid breathing in zinc dust.

  5. It looks more like a C class that's being piloted (or hauled) by the B. The pioneer Sulzers had high axle loadings, so I don't think they would've ventured onto the Mallow-Waterford line, although I'm open to correction on this.

  8. Hi Peter, Phoenix Paints recently took over the Carrs range of solders and fluxes, which are widely used by modellers. Their website can be found at http://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk. It looks like the online store is down while the website is being restructured, but they can still take orders over the phone.
  9. Ah, indeed. It also shows some shots of the stock after they reverted to using authentic liveries.
  10. It was only applied to the E class loco, as far as I know, although that was later switched back to its correct Black and Tan livery.
  11. It is the case... the coach was previously owned by Westrail, who painted it green.
  12. That's a sweeping generalisation there, JB, and a bit unfair on the modellers themselves. There are quite a few examples of prototypical goods trains to be seen on Irish model railways. However, as you know, it can often mean a bit of kit-building (I see lots of Leslie's kits in use, for example), kit-bashing, or scratch-building, and not everyone is comfortable or confident enough to try that just yet. From the RTR perspective, of course, we're doing our bit to improve things...
  13. Nice photo! The Hunslet would have been on pilot duty in Adelaide Yard, rather than taking charge of the train for its journey.
  14. The Sulzers had 6LDA28 engines, which were also used in BR's class 24s. So, allowing for different exhausts, etc. I'd imagine they would have sounded something like this...
  15. Hi Noel, as I said above, the 121s received the 645s from scrapped C classes (which were withdrawn in the mid-1980s). The re-engined 121s were the ones fitted with push-pull equipment.

  17. Not Irish, but may be of interest to some... I have a keen interest in French railways and recently picked this up: It's a numberplate from a SNCF Y7100 class 'locotracteur' (shunter). The name 'Longeau' at the top refers to the depot it was assigned to.
  18. Just saw some photos of the auction on Facebook and noticed a station sign for Float in the background. Would've taken a punt on that if I'd noticed it in time! Any idea what it went for?
