Funnily enough I checked the tracking number this morning and this is what it said " 06 September 2024 15:04 Customs charges have been paid. Your item will be processed and delivered as soon as possible" Still says that. Thats all I got when I checked mine. 1 minute ago, skinner75 said: I ordered a wheelbarrow wheel from Amazon - from bony Scotland. First one got stopped by Customs & returned, due to no paperwork. Offered a refund, or to try again, I said go again. Wheel has been sitting in Customs since 3rd Sept, and will most likely be returned again. I'll be asking for a refund this time! On Amazon - they have a massive distribution centre built here, but no Irish site. If you order from .co.uk, you get hit with the fun above. They really need to get the .ie site up n running. For now, it'll be back to amazon.de for me! Try Screwfix.ie for the wheel. Stuff comes from UK, via DPD but not had any customs issues with items I have ordered Quote

spudfan Posted September 11 Posted September 11 I have used them in the past when they had something I wanted. Being EU based the stuff comes straight through. Incidentally, todays package with An Post came with a knock to the door. 1 Quote
leslie10646 Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Can anyone help with this one? Enda Byrne sent me some of his containers. The jolly old Royal Mail has sent me a bill for £20 (£8 to them for telling me!). Simple query - which maybe IRM can answer as they sent me stuff from Ireland and i paid nothing! - is VAT/duties payable on toy trains into UK? Regards to ye all from the Third World dump next door. 2 Quote

I know it's been said before, but the rules seem to change hourly! The whole brexit thing is now seen by most to be the utter, nonsensical disaster that anyone with a bit of wit could have predicted it would be. 3 Quote

In theory, yes, but I don't think they've bothered enforcing it before - wouldn't have looked good if people knew it was a "BrExit Benefit"... Royal Mail website says: Quote Royal Mail is required by law to present all items arriving from outside the UK to Border Force. This mail may be checked by them and be subject to customs charges. Any charges are calculated and applied by Border Force on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). These charges aren't applied by Royal Mail. The charges depend on the contents, where the item came from and who sent it. Letters, postcards and parcels containing only documents are normally exempt. For items sent through the post, Royal Mail pay HMRC any import VAT and Customs Duty on your behalf. This ensures you receive your item as quickly as possible. We'll then send you a Fee to pay card. This shows how much you need to pay before you can receive your item. The amount will include our £8 handling fee. 1 Quote

Yes, VAT is payable, but customs/import duty is not. Quote
leslie10646 Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Thanks, really with the reams said on this forum before, I should have accepted that the answer was "Yes"! But quite how 20% of £20 comes to £11 is beyond even my mathematics. 1 Quote

Absolutely. You’ll pay 20% VAT plus admin fee on entry to the country (unless like us you’re collecting and reporting it under Ioss rules) Quote

It's quite simple. 20% of £20 is £4, plus an additional 40% in the small print to cover that (in)famous £350M per week hole in NHS finances, so that's £12. 1 1 1 Quote
Past-Avenue Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Sorry this may have been answered before but if you post from Northern Ireland to the UK what's the story?. I know that you can post within the island of Ireland with no problem. Enda Quote

Enda Don’t put it that way in certain parts of NI Enda or you’ll cause great offence !;) NI, technically speaking, is part of the UK (it’s the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) so postage to GB not an issue. Markleman Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Leslie This has happened to me before with stuff from Australia - the VAT they charged was much more than 20% of the value. There is no duty on things like that so VAT is all you should be charged. You have to pay it to get the stuff delivered, so then I appealed against it. Apparently they sometimes do not believe the values stated and make an estimate. Seemingly they believe that some unscrupulous types understate the value of things on customs declaration - I don't know why they think that. Anyhow there was a section on the HM Customs website for appealing which I did. I had to restate the value (which was what was written on the declaration in the first place). Eventually they sent me a cheque for the difference. Good luck. Jim 1 Quote

Enda Actually, Enda, when I tried that in Bangor, they would only sell me international postage - so the parcels (several) were posted in Dundalk! We can't get back into the Custom's Union a day too early! 1 1 Quote
