Wexford70 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 (edited) Three Spanish men who spray painted the exteriors of four DART carriages as part of a "misguided artistic endeavour" have each received a suspended prison sentence. https://www.rte.ie/news/dublin/2022/0708/1309200-grafitti-dart/ Edited July 10, 2022 by Wexford70 1 3 Quote
Galteemore Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Whichever defence lawyer came up with that as a tagline deserves to be an SC if they aren’t already. 1 Quote

JasonB Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Typical. Dress it up as a "misguided artistic endeavor" and you get a slap on the wrist. Mindless vandalism is what it is. Simple as that. 3 3 Quote

Personally, if I was a judge, I would be exceptionally hard on graffiti vandals. 2 hours ago, murphaph said: I wonder would they like their flash car given a similarly artistic treatment. Sean Hogan Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Probably all on free legal aid more expense for tax payer the sentence should act as a deterant not an encouragement to carry out more offences. 1 Quote
Dempsey Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Suspended sentences only survive to undermine the legal system and enables those to continually break the law. 1 Quote
Galteemore Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 (edited) Graffiti is arguably a case for fines/restorative justice rather than a custodial sentence anyway. Edited July 10, 2022 by Galteemore 3 1 Quote

Broithe Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 A suspended sentence seems reasonable enough. As long as the nearest lampposts are structurally sound enough for the job. 1 6 Quote
Sean Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 If theres no room in the Jail for anto the rapist and his 300 previous convictions then what hope is there for a trio of "Art enthusiasts" who either do not reside in the state or have an easy means to get out of it. 8 hours ago, murphaph said: I wonder would they like their flash car given a similarly artistic treatment. On the balance of it, that would be a far more serious crime. Is the compensation awarded enough to cover the cost of damages and repairs? Quote
minister_for_hardship Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Fully grown adult MEN, not kids, who you'd think would have sense. This activity appears to be tolerated on the continent, there should be severely fined here to make an example of them. 1 Quote
Branchline121 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Didn’t IÉ spend something like €1m last year cleaning this sort of stuff? And now they’re letting the perpetrators go!? 2 Quote

There again, if you have ever visited the Naples area, the stock of the Circumvesuvious Railway is SO plastered with graffiti that it is impossible to know what it original livery might have been. 1 Quote

I have long held onto my own principle that I will refuse point blank ever to travel by any means of transport with graffiti on it. I don't care if the taxi is 40 times the price. Greek and Italian stock looks disgusting. 1 Quote
K801 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 that gives the green light for others to do the same and get away with it. I bet that Judge dosn't use public transport 2 1 Quote

Galteemore Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 It’s horrible vandalism but these guys have incredible precision in terms of aerosol application. I suspect they could apply those skills in a far more remunerative and positive way by spraying models and not 1:1…. 3 Quote
