3. How many rail termini had Cork city, like?

 

There was 9 termini 10 if you include the tram depot.

 

1. Victoria - terminal before the tunnel was built.

2. Penrose Quay (before Glanmire rd.)

3. Summerhill.

4. Glanmire Rd (Kent)

5. Albert Quay.

6. Albert st.

7. Victoria Rd.

8. Capwell.

9. Western Rd.

 

The Midleton line also terminated at different locations during its construction but mostly outside the city limits.

 

Full marks and a bonus biccie for that man, anyone care to have a punt at 2. and the coat of arms that I had in mind in 1.?

Re-listing the questions for those lazier than me :)

 

New ones:

1. What (pre-GSR) railway company had the Irish langauge featured in their coat of arms?

2. What was the only location where all 6 patterns of miniature ETS could be found, and no, it's not Castlerea!

Well if they can change the entire name of a town (Cove) to suit her visit. I'm sure a few station names was loose change!

Spot on.

Includes a scroll with 'Bothar Iarainn Traighli agus an Daingean' (sp.?) on it.

It was carried on some locos on cab side sheets, but not on the coaches as its modern day reincarnation.

 

Now for Q2.

Shortest lived Irish railway company or administrative body?

 

Pure guess....Great Southern Railway (in the singular)? 12th Nov '24 to 1st Jan '25.

 

Haven't got the foggiest on the signal one, signalling isn't my strong suit.

Possibly Ulster Transport Railways during the hand-over from UTA to NIR, The GNRB was only dissolved when CIE took over The County Donegal Railway's road transport services in the early 1970s

I'll put everyone out of their misery, answer is Athenry, had all patterns from A - F at one time.

 

A - to Galway

B - to Ennis (long section)

C - Gort

D - Woodlawn (long section)

E - Attymon

F - Tuam

Now that's one I didn't know, Minister....

 

Would have been a handy way to get a new loco or stock from a ship on the quays to Western Rd, don't know if was ever done though.

The tramway/Muskerry rails were quite close, but not connected near the gates of UCC.

I did have it mind that they weren't connected, but obviously a transfer could have been effected, albeit awkwardly, using rollers and adjacent tracks! Nothing as awkward as the Waterford and Tramore, though, where a wall had to be knocked down and rebuilt for stock transfer purposes...

Where on the network can you see a signal with two separate heads that show the same aspect, and it is not a banner repeater?

Nope, it’s in Kildare. It is on the middle road heading for Dublin. The first head is gantry and the second head is on the ground below it. It is to give drivers heading towards Dublin a better view of the signal than is blocked by the foot bridge.

 

You can see it in this video at about 30 seconds.
