Garfield
What's this? Garfield? A workbench? In the same sentence? Shocking stuff. And here it is: There's not much happening on it just yet, but there will be in another week or two after I get through a deluge of print deadlines, election coverage, and getting a festival off the ground! Glenderg
Cleanest bloody cutting mat I ever seen. May that not last long.

Kirley
I see you have an Oil Tank wagon built, and a Low-loader and & building to follow. Looking forward to seeing things progress - "It's too late to stop now!"

Kirley
That mat should be well cut up by now, how about some pictures please?
Garfield
If I had time to sit at it for five minutes, it'd be sliced to pieces by now. Alas, work and other commitments (including New Irish Lines, among others) have kept me away from it.

Garfield
Strange happenings on the workbench tonight (i.e. activity)... Just started work on a CIÉ pallet van using parts from Parkside Dundas BR palvan and shock-absorbing van kits.

Garfield
That is a disgracefully tidy workbench. Well done sir. Basically, I look at Richie's bench and make sure it's the exact opposite!

Glenderg
Basically, I look at Richie's bench and make sure it's the exact opposite! If that's your strategy Pat, by copying my bench, I'm both humbled and disgusted all at the same time. My bench is a bastion of workfulness. RedRich
It's what comes off of the production line that matters and the finished wagon will look sweet Pat. Richies mat is R&D pre production, production, post production and finish all in one. No doubt yours will be the same soon Pat. The Dapol Deltic is looking good Richrua. Garfield
A quick photo as work continues tonight... One annoying thing is that, unlike the CIÉ version, the 'X' bracing on the BR palvan extends right to the corner, so a bit of compromise was needed when adding the styrene corner brackets. Some raised detailing also had to be shaved off as it wasn't present on the Irish wagon, and also so the sliding door (more styrene) will fit snugly when laid over the existing double door. Warbonnet
Nice work Pat. Having nailed these together (as BR wagons it has to be said) I have found them a pleasure to make. Might work on Irishising a few to stick behind a 141 based on your findings.
StevieB
It appears to me that there are three main differences between the bodies of the CIE and BR palvans: 1) Sliding doors 2) Wider roof to accommodate the sliding doors 3) Corrugated ends The latter two differences can be accommodated easily by substituting the roof and ends from the BR vanwide kit. Does anyone have experience of obtaining 'spares' from Parkside Dundas? Stephen
Mayner
The pallet vans had at least 3 different types of ends. Its possible that Patrick may use the sides and underframe from the donor Vanfit s a basis for the plank GSWR version of the H Van. Hint Hint!! StevieB
the Hornby GW ventilated van is a close approximation to these - remove the end strapping and ventilators and you're almost there. But we digress from Garfield's workbench. Stephen
