Broithe Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 There's Irish interest this year. You can even vote, if you like. Here - http://www.fifa.com/ballon-dor/puskas-award/index.html . Some noses could be put out of joint...... Quote

Horsetan Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Reminds me of the Paul Gascoigne goal against Scotland in the Euro96. Quote

Noel Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Let's here it for the girl, a cracker of a goal, the way she maneuvered that ball reminded me of Charlie George in a cup final, get voting guys,Well I don't follow soccer but that goal was insanely genius, so gets my vote. Good on her. Quote
burnthebox Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Come on lads, remember vote EARLY & VOTE OFTEN, a truly mega goal, Quote
Broithe Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 Rodriguez wins - and she'd bought a new dress specially.. I'm surprised, there's money to be "made" from women's football... Quote
josefstadt Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Stephanie Roche was robbed. The James Rodriguez goal was, IMHO, the least skilful of the three finalists. He controlled the ball once with his chest before volleying. Roche, on the other hand, controlled the ball twice with her feet then volleyed. The Robin van Persie goal, a lovely diving header, was far better than Rodriguez's, but I still think that Roche's was marginally better. Still, I suppose that it was a certainty that the award was going to go to someone from one of the 'big' countries to keep those associations happy. Quote
Hunslet 102 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Still, I suppose that it was a certainty that the award was going to go to someone from one of the 'big' countries to keep those associations happy. Agreed, just the same way as finish 4th in your league and get into the champions league,a bit of a contradiction.Champions from every country into a hat with a random draw, only fair as far as I am concerned. burnthebox Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Stephanie was robbed, without a doubt, not only did she control the ball, not once, but twice, all the while her back was to the goal, & still without the ball touching the ground, she turned on her toes & outsmarting her marker she put it in the back of the nett like a professional, Stephanie lifted the Country, austerity et all, for just enough time for us to think, maybe, but sure isn't Sett Blatter still around, enough said, PS Who's James Rodriguez anyway Quote
Broithe Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 Well, we all know that she won, really. She appears to have been wearing some sort of obscure away strip. Quote
skinner75 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Football is as corrupt as boxing - especially with Septic Bladder at the helm - little crook bastid Quote
Tarabuses Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Football is as corrupt as boxing - especially with Septic Bladder at the helm - little crook bastid I don't know if that was the reason this time. Colombia has a much greater population than Ireland and she did come close on votes. What happened to Van Persie's support? Quote
burnthebox Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Not only can our Stephanie score great goals, & she sure get's the attention, & rightly so, who need's the FIFA Ballon D'or anyway, we have our Stephanie, http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/stephanie-roche-denied-by-galáctico-james-as-ronaldo-reigns-supreme-again-1.2063517?page=1 Quote
RedRich Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 James Rodriguez plays for one of, if not the biggest supported club teams in the world. It stands to reason that Real fans would vote for a club player in a FIFA Award. As great as all three goals were I thought that Tim Cahills goal in the World Cup against the Dutch was a better goal then any of them. To beat a keeper from that angle with power and accuracy is one of the hardest goals to try and score. There is something about shots that hit the underside of the crossbar and bounce into the goal that hold a lot of peoples fascination and I'm sure that it led to a lot of people voting for the Rodriguez goal.
