heirflick Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 great work eamonn - love the weed tank:tumbsup: Quote
enniscorthyman Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 I got some goodies from Des in the post today,so these should keep me out of Divilment for a while. Fair play to des for such great kits. I have 5 oil tankers and got the brass detail kit for them. The Wickham Inspection car is the one I am looking forward to most. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 Some work on the oil tankers- Quote
scahalane Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Nice start on the oil wagons, I've a rake I need to start myself soon so I'm keeping a close watch. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 They are a nice and handy to make, although some brass parts are small and hard to handle, but nothing a few curses won't sort. Quote
heirflick Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) great stuff eamonn - keep the progress reports comming! Edited February 2, 2014 by heirflick Quote
enniscorthyman Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 Did u use a airbrush for the mk3 EGV Sorry Sean<I only saw your question now.No airbrush used, all hand painted with MIR 201 orange and the white stripe is from a peel off sheet. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 The workbench is getting busy now with more stuff in the post this week. I put some pinpoint brass bearings on the ballast wagon and stuck on the hand wheel at the sides. I got this nice single track LC kit from Irish Freight models. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 Where u get the white stripes I got them Sean in that model shop on Capel Street in Dublin. I cant remember the name or make of it,but it gave you the option of different sizes. Most people will tell you that its better to mask off with tape to get a better white stripe, but I went the lazy way:) Quote
Shinkansen Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Very nice work on the PWD wagon and the Oil tanker. Excellent detailing on both wagons I must say. Those little details really do make it. These are two projects I have in the pipeline for later in the year. Hope to do as good a job if i can. Top stuff Tom Quote
jhb171achill Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 One detail which comes out particularly well on your model is the stencilled logo and numerals, and the apparently recently repainted immediate area round it. That really adds total realism. I'm a bit out of date on to, but do manufacturers of transfers / decals like these routinely produce numerals which look like the prototypical stencils? Quote

jhb171achill Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Never would have doubted, Weshty, excellent! Once I've moved house in the spring, it will be Layout Time. I'm planning some sort of rural Ardee / Castleisland type outpost as a small terminus, just with a fiddle yard, set about 1960 - 1972. I'll be darkening your door to buy various things you have! Weshty Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Ardee. mmmmm. Gorgeous GNRI polychromatic brick. And the station is well preserved there too. Roll on I say! Quote
jhb171achill Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I'd be tempted by either a GNR or MGWR prototype, just brought into CIE days in the case of the former. I would prefer as close to absolute accuracy over a large track layout. I'm researching products at the moment. Quote

Top stuff Tom Thanks Tom,It was always my intention to detail my ballast train, and the pipes along the body side and the brake pipes are next on the list.I have 12 ballast wagons to detail and then the plough vans will get some work on them. irishthump Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Lovely work there, Eamonn. I see you're converting to using Kadees, have you tried using no. 5 couplers rather than the plug in type? They're lot cheaper. Quote

Riversuir226 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Nice work Eamonn must get myself a bag of those pipes!!! Quote
enniscorthyman Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Just finished the detailing on ballast wagon, and delighted with results. looks far better with proper pipes and hand wheels, and although tricky to get the brass wire along the body side and rejoin on the bend area. Now only 11 more wagons to go!. And two wagons together showing before and after. Quote
ttc0169 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Excellent job there Eamonn, the pipe work and the wheels really make the difference... Quote

Kirley Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Looks tedious work especially with 11 more to do but it will be worth it in the end. Quote

enniscorthyman Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Work seems slow on my workbench, however here are a few updates- I have the oil wagon finished bar some minor paint detail and I have tried some Humbrol oil stain and rust but need to get the proper decals before I do any more. The SSM inspection car is slowly coming together- I am not sure if I will put a motor in her but have put the inside parts ready for paint and glue If she will be unpowered. I plan to change the body of a39 to 001,and so have started with the SSM brass detail kit on 001s body. This body will have directional lighting as well as the sound chip body. Quote
Glenderg Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Superb stuff altogether. Love the wickham. You gonna put a pair of inspectors in it? Whats the oil stain, looks class? Richie. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Ritchie its a Humbrol oil stain wash I got in Grahams last week along with a rust wash.Just messing about with these washes and I nearly forgot that decals will have to be stuck on. The inspection car might end up on a siding unpowered with a few chaps inside. Quote
