Broithe Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Love the J.Byrne bar - is that a card kit? Beautiful - very reminiscent of Willie Mitchell's place in Rathdowney. Quote
richrua Posted July 30, 2015 Author Posted July 30, 2015 Thanks folks. I made the bar myself to sit with the Ould house Bachmann building. I had a good look at some real street buildings and settled on a fairly straightforward design. The name was a photo that I printed off v small till I got it right. The facade is made with plasticard strip. Quote
richrua Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 I have concentrated on this area in order to complete it. The points that I can't reach are now wired. The steam era J15 has been neglected for some time. The weeds grow thick around her wheels, although I am surprised nobody has nicked the coal. (Not a real j15 just a cheeky conversion for a set piece) 1 Quote
JasonB Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Lovely layout, nice to see the different liveries from different times instead of having to stick to a certain era. Quote
DiveController Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Layout coming on in leaps and bounds now! Quote
richrua Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 Thanks. Yes Jason, many many people would disagree and dislike to see different eras together. To be honest I will eventually try to run correct trains at least, but I have no intention at all of focussing on one era. Life is too short to only get one livery of murphy models !!!! Quote

craven1508 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Few pints in mj byrne and a set of mark 2,s with sweet sounding 071 up front! perfect setting well done:cheers: Quote
The Derry Road Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Richrua, you layout is looking good, well done on the building M J Bryne its all coming together. Keep the pictures and updates coming. TDR Quote
richrua Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 Finally got a chance to do a bit on the Layout. Here is the Kingscourt branch. I did some ballasting and built a little ramp for the gypsum lorries. Quote
Kirley Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Missed your previous post, love the Shed, the layout is really maturing. Quote
richrua Posted January 16, 2016 Author Posted January 16, 2016 The Kinscourt branch was spared passenger closure by an upturn in passenger numbers sparked by subsidised commuter fares from Kinscourt into Dubin. (Well,in my world anyway...) Quote
jhb171achill Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 I always thought a J15 would have looked quite well in green..... Quote
richrua Posted February 6, 2016 Author Posted February 6, 2016 Quiet scenes on the Kinscourt branch. A woolly is stationed in a siding awaiting preservation with a fresh coat of grey. Quote
BosKonay Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 What a stunning lick of paint - one of the best colour likenesses I've seen! Good work! Quote
richrua Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 thank you. to be honest i thought it might work out too dark. happy meself. i wired a stay alive capacitor into the tender. I maybe need a snail and a number... Quote
Riversuir226 Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Excellent job so far, the woolie looks the business. Try Des at ssm for the flying snail and number. Quote
richrua Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 Will do riversuir thanks. No skill involved really. It is a can of Halfords Rover Hurricane Grey . Was a very satisfying and simple conversion. Nice when it comes off well !! Quote
RedRich Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 As has been said the colour match is good, and it is a nice finish from a rattle can. Rich, Quote
richrua Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 Glaringly obvious is the absence of signals. thats the next job so - building some signals Quote
richrua Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 From a vantage point above on the road, some young fella captured a short cravens train led by 190, passing the crossing on the Kings court branch. https://youtu.be/p6Uj6rrppV0 Quote
jhb171achill Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 That's got to be the best (in terms of painting skill and grey shade accuracy) GSR / CIE paint finish I've ever seen! Quote
richrua Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 thanks folks. one does try indeed. A few gypsum (ballast) wagons are going to look good trailing through there soon enough Quote
richrua Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 precious little actual modelling in such a long time. I did acquire a dcc concepts unit for switching points. Also have wired up my distant signal to it. All control from handset. Great for play !!!! Quote
GSR 800 Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I always thought a J15 would have looked quite well in green..... John, wasn't 184 put in CIE green sometime during the 80s? Well done Rich, electrics is not my forte, but clearly you know your stuff. How is the woolie getting on? Quote
richrua Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 hello there. the dcc concepts solenoid unit makes the electrics a lot easier. feeds straight off bus and the motors run through my NCE handset. less wires running all over the place. The woolie is grand. I will be getting the rpsi coach set as i plan to have her run as a made-up preserved loco alongside the more modern shtuff. Quote
richrua Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 A video I put together of some running on the Kingscourt branch. A standard two carriage train for passengers is pure fiction , in my world passenger services clung on to serve a commuter population. https://youtu.be/qg8mwz9TC8Q Quote
jhb171achill Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 John, wasn't 184 put in CIE green sometime during the 80s? It was. Then it was repainted black with a yellow snail and a yellow line along the running board. Then 461 was painted black with a yellow snail! All looked very well, it has to be said, but were historically inaccurate in all respects. Quote
