A customers layout

I thought that I would post the progress of a layout that I am currently building for a client in the UK.

It's 4 meter long x 3 meter wide.

One side is a large TMD with a small scrap yard and a small container terminal with a Heljan container crane.

Joining the two sides is a feature curved viaduct and on the other side is a large container port with a dock side with container ship and two Heljan container cranes. It will feature an Oxford diecast truck converted to Faller by Eoin and will collect containers from the ship.

I'll post the progress as I go.

Here's some pics of where I have got to.

Wonderful work, Dave!

What's the story with the joysticks?

Cheers! That's one of the control panels for the container port. The joysticks are for the Heljan container cranes, full DCC operational cranes with sound too!

Oh that's sweet!

That's not the half of it, it will have a fully automatic level crossing that the truck will stop at if the barriers are down! The ship will have sound and smoke, very high quality lighting made by CR Signals. The Heljan cranes will be able to offload from the ship to the train or truck.

Just promise you'll post some videos when all is said and done.....

Hi

I saw the bridge in the flesh at the Carlton Hotel Show today, as we now say 'It's a beautiful thing'. By the shots above and all that's going into it this layout is stunning...

Thanks Lads, the viaduct is clad with Slaters Plastikard. The main stone is embossed plastic card the quoins are embossed paving stone cut and bent around the corner. Then the arch face is 1mm plastic card cut and grooved same with the capping stones. I used red brick embossed for under the arches.

I have still to do more painting to finish it off.

I will be stocking Slaters Plastikard soon and will be available to buy at shows and online.

Looks great, Dave! Is this the layout you were referring to during our chat last Saturday? :)

It was Pat. I'll put a video up of the Faller truck running on it.

Hi Dave

It looks brilliant, cant wait to see the video of the Daf truck running around on that- not to mention the cranes, the boat, containers and trains....

Great stuff

Bit of an update on the Port area. Got the back scene boards up. As this layout comes apart I designed the back scene boards to be interlocking ensuring that they stay in perfect alignment.

The buildings were custom made ultra low relief to represent an industrial estate backing onto the railway. This will be finished with a bit of a waste ground with a fence beside the track.

That is cool. I assume there's a large pile of containers to go in the middle ala north wall? Love the track layout, has a,nice realistic flow to it.

Thanks Rich, yes a lot of containers in the middle with two heljan container cranes at the dockside. Should look good when it's finished.

Hi Dave

Coming along very nicely, I love the low relief buildings their very neat, when that yard is populated its going to be deadly....

Still cant wait to see the Daf running out through the security/check point gate, and again wow- when the crane, ship and containers or on its going to be deadly...
