Poor old B135 has been languishing at £160 GBP at Rails of Sheffield for a while:

https://railsofsheffield.com/products/murphy-models-mm0135-po-pre-owned-irish-class-121-b135-in-cie-original-grey-livery-diesel-locomotive

Now joined by a DCC-fitted Murphy Models 121 Class no. B131 at £180 GBP:

https://railsofsheffield.com/products/murphy-models-mm0131-cdc-po-pre-owned-cie-black-class-121-b131-diesel-locomotive-dcc-fitted

More suited to UK buyers due to import costs, sadly.

Don't Rails deduct UK Vat when sending to Ireland or does that only apply to new items ?

They don’t deduct VAT from pre-owned items, sadly.

Has Rails confirmed this?

You typically don't pay much VAT on second hand things in the first place. The idea is that VAT was already paid when it was sold the first time, so you only pay VAT on Rails' profit margin when they're reselling it. At least that's how it works in Ireland, I assume it's similar in the UK.

It's probably too complicated for Rails to deduct VAT from just their margin, or maybe they don't want to reveal exactly what their margin is

I questioned this with rails about a year ago and this is the response I received;-

Good morning Thomas,

With the government VAT scheme we are enrolled on, we do not charge VAT on pre-owned items at all, so there is none to deduct.

Kind regards,

As did @Ironroad, I asked a few years ago and they told me that they don’t charge VAT on pre-owned, so there’s none to remove.

Looking at their pre-owned pricing, in general, items are quite frequently listed for higher prices than the same item new, even when still in stock, so there must be quite a margin on a lot of it.

Hatton’s pre-owned section was great value but Rails have a different philosophy. I’ve been watching a few O Gauge locos sit there for a long time. Hatton’s wanted the stuff gone and priced accordingly, but Rails are quite happy to hold onto it for several years.

If you've seen the size of Rails' warehouse, it's not like they're short of space. I wouldn't be surprised if some items have been sitting there so long that they're starting to decompose....

If you're the wrong side of the Irish Sea and you're looking for a Murphy Models class 121 then DC Models would be a place to go with prices from £110.00 (with damaged handrail), grey livery at £125.00 plus P&P, actually they say on the website "No VAT to Eire or EU so perhaps something for everyone!

I'm waiting for the next IRM announcement, hoping it's a C class or AEC railcar. Saving up already...

Or an O Gauge 071!!!

When it comes to UK outline O Gauge, one Class 37 and one InterCity Executive loco are probably sufficient:

A quick image search for “DC Models” brings back some unexpected results, but I can understand your interest…

DC Models in Hampshire, with smaller, more railway related models, are currently working on their website:
