dave182 Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 With most of Irish Rails 071 Class overhauled and the wrong side of 40 years old, I was just wondering about the status of NIR's 3 members of the class (111,112,113). Are they in good condition and are they seeing much use these days? What is the bodywork and paint like, for example? Quote

I belive they are in a good condition, as the went through a over haul not too long ago. They currently see a lot of PWD work and the odd RPSI rescue mission. If I remember tomorrow, i'll post some detailed photos of em' from my last depot tour in YRD in 2016. Quote
popeye Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I seen two on Monday sitting at York Road Depot side by side. They do seem to get used on a regular basis. Quote
richrua Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 I see them most days on way home from work .If only I could stop on the motorway for some pics. They are in good nick. I would say about a month or two ago they were either repainted or cleaned very thoroughly. Quote
Derry Central Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 I see them all regularly from the train and they are on the move quite a lot. 8111 and 8113 look well but 112 needs some attention to the paintwork. Quote
jhb171achill Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 I'm curious as to why NIR still use the old NIR logo on them, as the "translink" brand has been on the go now for twenty years! I would have thought that they might have tried to incorporate them into their "corporate image" by painting them the current shade of darker blue, as on railcars for many years now, with the oval "Translink" thing! 33lima Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Still there today (25 Jul 17), as seen through a grimy bus window... Quote
popeye Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 I passed by there today myself, they must not be too busy. Quote
JasonB Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 112 is looking a little rough around the edges. Quote
jhb171achill Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Best pics I've seen of that trio for a long time if not ever! Quote
Noel Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Best pics I've seen of that trio for a long time if not ever! Yes it sure is, and this pic posted by admin a few years ago was pretty good too. Quote
jhb171achill Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 That one illustrates the different sized yellow patches well also. Quote
Weshty Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 112 is looking a little rough around the edges. Nothing a wirebrush and Dettol can't sort out. Quote
craven1508 Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 112 is a legend, with her little orange bits here and there! Quote
PaulC Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Travelling by train to Belfast on Sunday, I knew that these three behemoths of the Rail network were still sitting at York Road depot so I took a few snaps as we filed past. Thought it would add to the portfolio. Paul Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 They've been on the move double heading with ballast wagons as trials. Quote
jhb171achill Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Interesting to see (rare!) recent repaints still with the NIR logo, some 20 years after it was superceded by the Translink device! Quote
PaulC Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 They've been on the move double heading with ballast wagons as trials. That might explain the three wagons sitting in a siding at Central Station yesterday then. I also noticed some shiny new Works wagons at the Ballymena yard too. I'll try and get a few photos of them this week. Paul Quote
33lima Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Snapped the hopppers at Central on Saturday, on the way back from the UMRC show: Quote
NIRCLASS80 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 The shiny new wagons be Ballymena may well be condemned before they turn a wheel!! Long story Quote
jhb171achill Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 The shiny new wagons be Ballymena may well be condemned before they turn a wheel!! Long story Eh? How come? How new are they? Quote
PaulC Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 They could well be Hurricane. From the little I saw of them they looked like low sided rectangular skips of which two were sitting on each wagon. The wagon underframe looked very used whereas the skips were new. Pics later hopefully. Paul Quote
