leslie10646 Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 You'll all think I've got daft, bringing this up so early, but I do have a good reason. Are any of you aware of any Irish layouts planning to be there? If so, which one(s)? Please. I ask, as the Warley Club has given me an early opportunity to say where I want to be with the IRRS stand and it's useful to say "near xxxxx Irish layout". I know Andy Cundick is attending with one of his layouts, but are there others? Thanks Leslie 1 Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 We won't be there Leslie, still getting our breath back after last year! And I am sure the SDMRC will not have a layout there As I am sure you are aware, invitations are issued a couple of years in advance so I reckon there are no Irish "Irish" layouts attending It will be up to our brothers on the mainland methinks. I'm not surprised that you guys are still recovering from your efforts in 2019, it's hard work. Anyway, I hope to see you at Raheny! As for Warley, Andy is showing his Welsh layout this year, but plans a Co Donegal layout the following year. 1 Quote

NIRCLASS80 Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 I’m sure for the organising club it’s a relief to get to this stage. We sometimes forget the amount of grief these people have to go through to keep these large shows happening and the massive financial pressures of renting an arena like the NEC. 1 Quote
Andy Cundick Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 One good thing it gives me a bit more time to finish my Welshpool locos, for Llanfair which was going this year. The main problem being i keep getting side tracked with other things currently some Great Northern coaches and an Austin Gipsy.Andy. 2 Quote
leslie10646 Posted August 9, 2021 Author Posted August 9, 2021 WARLEY OFF This won't surprise anyone? Warley 2020 (like the Olympics and Euros) was running a year late, but is now going to be two years late. I've just received an e-mail to say Warley in November has been cancelled. Now, do I leave my deposit in place until 2022? Quote

NIRCLASS80 Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 I would imagine the financial risk the Warley Club is exposed too very time they run the show would terrify many of the people who attack them for not running it. It’s the club’s decision and fair play to them for making it. 6 Quote

Irishswissernie Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Model Railway Shows were getting to be financially risky even prior to COVID. I understand both the 2 large shows here in the North East in 2019 made a loss. Back in the 1980's when I was involved in such ventures, Even allowing for inflation, Venue hire was much lower especially schools etc. Public liability Insurance much cheaper and visiting layouts expenses lower. Plus there were far more clubs so a bigger pool of members layouts etc which would do reciprocal visits etc in exchange and forgo expenses as a result. 3 Quote
