Rich,If you check out my workbench page 24/25,I have a bit on my A39
with sound chip.If you are ever Down Wexford way you are welcome for a
demo of all the sound chipped locos incl 001 class. The 071 chip(Sound Guy)
is by far the best, however the 201 will have improvments as well I am sure.

The Hornby Deltic has a good chassis for the SF 001 loco.It seems the
price has creeped up as I bought one two years ago for about 36 stl, while
the last time I looked on Hattons it was 50 stl.Tommy you are welcome
to pop down to have a look at what's involved it switching over the
chassis. As you wont have a speaker in your machine, the weights that
come with the Deltic can be better arranged to get good traction as
bass reflex speaker I use takes up a lot of space. Here is a bit of video
of 001 with the Deltic chassis showing some slow speed.
As regards the speaker in the 141 loco, I have heard two arguments as regard taking off the back of the speaker so no cutting/filing is needed for it to fit as space is very tight in the body. However it has been said that the back of the speaker is needed to properly get out the bass sound and hence why some people do this modification.
Most speakers have this chamber to reflect the sound out, however just removing the back will save a hell of a lot of work.
All the Sound guy /MSB decoders were recorded from IE locos,071 was 088,201 was 212, and the 141 is I think 188 (with permission from IE.The 001 class sound chip was recorded a few years ago at Downpatrick but is not available just yet.I love the 071 chip and in particular the horn sounds are great.
Dave, that photo reminds me of the 001 class kit I bought at a show in the RDS about 1995.Q kits is right, after trying to build it, I gave up, although I did see someone on here who did a fantastic job on one.
