If you want to bring the Hornby and Airfix Mk2's into the 21st century Shawplan http://www.shawplan.com/extreme_coachandunit_Laserglaze_4mm.html do very nice laserglaze units for them .

    The one thing I do remember in particular about the 121 class in regard to sound was when they pulled in at a station was a distinctive knocking noise from the loco , this was the air compressor rebuilding the air pressure this was louder than on the other B Gm’s possibly as they may have had a different on board air compressor on the 121 class , don’t know if this can be recreated on a sound chip .

    i would think this would be the best policy trying to find out which engine is in which is difficult at this stage or just leave the 121/141 with 567 sound chips and 181's with 645 .

    I believe ( I could be wrong ) but sometime during the 1990's that some of the remaining 567 block's were converted to 645 , the difference between the two is the cylinder size 567 cylinder bore 8 1⁄2 in (216 mm)/ 645 9 1⁄16 in (230 mm ) this was possibly more for convenience than performance as you only had to keep one set of spares , so chances are that a 121 of 141 in the mid to late 90's all had 645 by default , what difference this made to the sound is beyond my pay grade !!

    here is another clip on the beet , I think the 121 and 141 classes were better performers in conditions like this on the beet .

    You are looking are two completely different markets when you compare the Republic of Ireland and the UK, weather we like it or not Ireland is a high priced economy , higher wages , higher costs , higher Vat etc. What we do however lack among a lot of dealers here is a deal culture which is very much part of modern trade , perhaps retailers here would do better if they were prepared to offer a better priced based on increased numbers , example if you buy six we will do a special price etc . Very similar to IRM doing there bundle deals on wagons .

    Found this picture of a grain wagon from the O'Dea collection taken with the wagon missing its running gear following a derailment at the 46th mile box of the Sligo goods ,you can see the number 164xx and you can also see a faint flying snail still on this wagon in 1971 . http://catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000307730

    The see thru grills are just one of big details but there are many small ones like the cut out footstep which was one of the many small modification's carried out on these locomotives during the service life on the railway system this shows a great attention to detail on these locos .

    Would you consider making the collectors edition box available as an option for the other A classes , A1 is simpily not my era , but might be interested if available for one of the later ones.

    Nice work GM171kk they are the earlier keg pallets they were lifted off the train and straight onto the lorry for onward's delivery to pubs

    Nice picture of A19 with a covered H van which is 'fitted' for vacuum brakes I wonder had it come off a passenger train.
