  1. They certainly did when first introduced until the arrival of the Dutch vans and BR Mk 1 vans and by the mid 1970's the Six wheel van were relegated to be mainly used on secondary and suburban services .
  2. A very difficult picture to find however if you look through the wonderful IRRS flickr site and look in the Tom Davitt collection there is a picture at Liffey Junction of a GNR 1795 Bogie wagon and in the background is a ex GNR covered van with pressed steel ends and a white CIE roundell .

  4. I think we are looking at a time when petrol / diesel cars will be very much restricted and the only cars with yellow number plates on them or not will be electric ones .

Still pondering the answer to this question from studying various pictures the CIE Palvans were certainly taller than the standard 12 ton standard covered van which is 11'5", this excellent picture from J M Allen of a loose coupled goods which has a Palvan next to the loco illustrates the point very well the Palvan to my eye seems to be the same height as the 181 class which is 12'6" to the top of the exhaust manifold. Not very scientific but in the absence of an actual drawing might be the best we can get.
  10. Was once a CIE H van that was sold off when withdrawn from Railway service and has languished outside in the elements for the past 50 years now some chancer has put it up for sale looking for someone who is going to give €4500 of their hard earned cash for it because of its railway heritage.

  15. It very much depends on peoples modelling eras prior to the mid eighties the stock was mixed after that the Park Royals and cravens tended to be marshalled in sets with the Park Royal's being withdrawn in 1991 but anyone modelling 1990's-2006 Cravens are a must have .

  18. There is a lot of rolling stock preserved in various liveries but this is the first one in B&T considering how long that livery was in use 1961 -1987 is nice to see a coach turned out in it finally.
  19. Four Wheeled and six wheeled heating vans had a very short service life compared to the Dutch and BR vans , happily IRM are doing a brake version of the Park Royal so that means you can run your New Park RoyalS and MM cravens with a brake .

  21. While we have discussed many times the feasibility of doing GSV both Dutch and BR versions I wonder would there be a market for doing one in DCC with sound and lights both tail and interior one’s working, this would be in the price range reflected in what it is .
  22. The Park Royal’s share the same 61’6” underframe and commonwealth bogies as the 2419-2422 Buffet Cars unfortunately the numbers required to produce such a model may not be there to make a one off viable.

Originally they would have run with ordinary brake vans and tin vans with steam locomotives providing heat pre 1963 , they would have run with four wheel and six wheel heating vans in the diesel era then Dutch vans and BR Mk 1 vans and 32xx BGSV vans providing heat and power for TL fitted coaches . By the early 1980’s pretty much all the Park Royal’s would have been converted from Battery / Dynamo lighting to TL with 220v power.
  25. No they were banned from the lines with 90mph running due to their construction from the mid eighties so they would not have been in Kildare on revenue earning services. Not to jump to conclusions but this underframe and bogies were also shared on the laminates and other coaches like parcel vans and buffet cars so the future is very bright indeed …………..
