  1. Wow, what a beaut! Stephen
  2. The footbridge looks so much better lowered to the correct height. Well done. When I did this to my footbridge, I found that you have to be very careful with the plastic latticework when cutting bits off. Also, the surface areas available for sticking the pieces back together are very limited. What colour did you repaint it in? Stephen
  3. I’ve bought from them in the past and they were very good to deal with. Stephen
  4. That was quite a sum the NI government paid for NCC. I wonder what that would be today and what NIR is worth by way of comparison. Stephen
  5. Am I right in thinking that the UTA had to buy the NCC from the railway executive? Stephen
  6. Very nice and to think that Leslie might have this on his radar. Stephen
  7. I always thought the prototype was a very attractive loco, albeit made in quantities of one! Stephen
  8. If 00 Works could be persuaded to make a model of the original SLNCR 0-6-4T, I wonder how many they would sell. It would be nice to think they would go like hot cakes but is that being too optimistic/naive? Stephen
  9. Some more lovely shots from the south Waterford line. If only the direct line between Cork and Waterford had been built rather than the circuitous one via Mallow. Stephen
  10. You could go one step further and incorporate the never built GNR(I) link from Bundoran to Sligo. Failure to build this line was the main reason for the SLNCR. Imagine if you will GNR(I) trains at Sligo/GSR trains at Bundoran. If only I had been quicker off the mark and bought some 00 Works U/UG’s. Stephen
  11. Both of them froze, the first part-way through and the second never got going. Otherwise, excellent. Stephen
  12. They were that bad, then. Stephen
  13. Georgeconna also had one for sale on eBay recently. Stephen
  14. The articles by David Malone in RailModel Digest featured his layout Cliffoney, the might have been MGWR line from Sligo to Bundoran. Sadly, apart from a couple of photos in Modelling Irish Railways, it has never featured in any other magazine, unless someone knows better. Stephen
  15. Do you add brass wheel bearings or are they free running enough without? Stephen
  16. The behind the scenes views of Barrow Street are very impressive. I look forward to seeing moving pictures of the operations. Stephen
  17. Athlone GSWR.

They obviously never considered a standalone railway centre like at Quainton Road or Chappel and Wakes Colne, both of which survive without a mainline connection despite their close proximity. Stephen

Would it be fair to say that the ‘authorities’ in the UK have been more responsive to railway preservation than their opposite numbers in Ireland. Both WISRA and GSRPS both offered much but both eventually failed because they couldn’t turn their aspirations into reality. Let’s hope that the Connemara project succeeds. Stephen
  20. It looks very good. Stephen
  21. Hands up those who remember what day it is! Stephen
  22. Looking very good David. Stephen
  23. Earlier on there was reference to David Malone’s Cliffoney, a presumed MGWR line from Sligo to Bundoran, an alternative to a GNR(I) line from Bundoran to Sligo. Apart from some pieces in Rail Model Digest and Irish Railway Modelling, I can find no other references to it anywhere else. Can anyone help? Stephen
  24. Have a look at the Colm Creedon collection on corklocalstudies.ie. You’ll find a very personal record by a true enthusiast. Stephen
  25. There is an American 00 scale, which utilises a track gauge of 19mm. If that had been adopted over here, rather than 16.5mm, there would have no great need for EM/P4. Stephen
