  1. I don't think there's a problem there. Are they even running in Ireland at the moment? Yeah, it's still a respiratory disease. Coronavirus is a zoonotic respiratory disease acquired from bats (best guess) , therefore hoarding toilet tissue is just bat shit crazy!
  2. All of it would look better in 5'3"
  3. It's a sad fact of life that railway heritage railways seems to be harder to sustain in Ireland than some other areas, hence the financial issues. Some external factor outlined above certainly didn't help either. The Foyle Valley Railway in Derry closed in 2015. The Tralee and Blennerville Railway closed in 2006. The Clonmacnoise and West Offaly Railway closed in 2008. The Shane's Castle Railway ran from 1971 to 1995. The Great Southern Railway Preservation Society, which attempted to set up a preserved line between Tralee and Fenit, but fell through in the early 1990s. Westrail, which ran steam and diesel trains between Claremorris, Tuam, Athenry and Galway until 1993. https://www.flickr.com/photos/152343870@N07/25186450107/in/photolist-25SEdQ9-e1gThp-EnD98M-8vKang I believe that 611 is owned by ITG and out of use but 617 may be operational at DCDR
  4. @Gordon If I understood correctly you're a retailer thinking of opening/re-opening a model shop to include railway models in Waterford? Expressions of support do not necessarily guarantee you long-term business stability. AS has been said above, model railways alone is unlikely to succeed as a business venture and you probably need quite diverse merchandise to attract sufficient customers to make it a viable proposition; plastic models, railways, Irish railways, RC planes & boats, doll houses etc. You might contact the IRM boys to see whether you both wish to sell any other their products which are growing in popularity. YO should be able to conduct a poll on her and see what level of support you get from Waterford locals, those somewhat further afield, internet sales (if you can compete with the larger retailers). Tuppence etc
  5. Some earlier CIE containers in the background at Broadstone in 1960, reminiscent of British railways BD type container but bearing the flying snail stenciled on horizontal wooden boards
  6. It's possible that the triple stack cages did go on 'lurries' to Carlow.....
  7. Actually that's the number 2 cab depicted so technically that's not a head code. Would appreciate a view of F3CK on the leading cab when time permits please
  8. You can just make our 'ROAD RAIL MERCHANDISE SERVICES" in red on the lower part of the container and doors
  9. @Georgeconna Sorry to hear all that George! Just by way of prevention, bad things coming in threes and all that, microwaves have a HIGH voltage capacitor that will need to be discharged other than by plugging it out! Careful fixing it please, we'd almost be as shocked as you would!
  10. The even older logo in flanges photo above is from the 70s I would think. Also seen on the containers in this thread
  11. Incidentally, does anyone know when the logo change from the plus to the ampersand (B+I to B&I) (seems yo be very late 80s from what I can decipher) The other Cu na Mara just out of interest before I get too far off topic..
  12. It is simply beyond me how cameras can be effectively mounted on roads and motorist penalized by mail and this cannot be achieved at LCs. Bonkers!
  13. Very Cool @Galteemore Wish we had more reference to earlier in the Irish railway scene on the forum
  14. Actually I think the shade of orange is wrong, ... the green too actually .....
  15. It's still hard to believe that the iPhone has been around for just over a decade. I was asked by the probably 20 year old in 'customer service' for an email address; " .......@mac.com", I replied. "How do you spell that?" "Ahem, I beg your pardon, young man, I meant @icloud.com" I guess age like all things is relative
  16. It's the one that you want (the one that you want ) Flu, 'flu, 'flu (honey)
  17. There's also an older CIE container unless that is the side of a Scammell mechanical horse, which it might be (between the legs of the crane behind the B+I). and another B+I or Freightliner in the red livery on the top left (unfortunately partly obscured also)
  18. Its a long time since I looked at these but one of the others has a more sandy/beige/yellow stone but I don't recall exactly
  19. Likely crossing the Rory O' More bridge near Guinness brewery in Dublin ("Robert Daglish Junr. St. Helens Foundry Lancashire")
  20. Same could be said for certain railway models, split decision always on this forum though. Same has happened during genuine natural disasters with people selling $1 bottles of water for $20-40 in a developed and 'civilized' society. Honor, humanity and shame in all in short supply.
  21. It's identical but the stone color and doors might be different...
  22. Drew McDonald et al. book "A Decade of Steam: on CIE in the 1950s" (1974) written 25 years before that official history also refers to the emblem as being 'popularly' known as The Flying Snail
  23. Unfortunately all those lovely pic that used to be on the archive have gone due to Tinypics and Photobucket
  24. More right rudder!! .....come to think of it you didn't actually see it take off, right?
