Darius43 Posted December 23, 2023 Author Posted December 23, 2023 Interiors constructed using plasticard and plastic seats from a job lot obtained from eBay some years ago. I ran out of the eBay seats part way through the second coach so I made the remainder from plasticard. Cheers Darius 3 Quote
DJ Dangerous Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Absolutely outstanding, @Darius43, as usual... I'm surprised that you don't have an eight car DART running around... Speaking of, if you DO build one, I know a man who'll happily take it off your hands! 1 Quote
Darius43 Posted December 24, 2023 Author Posted December 24, 2023 Final details applied, interiors fitted, and peops added. Chassis weathering to complete. Looking at the box containing the Class 505 kit now… Wishing everyone here on IRM a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Cheers Darius 14 1 Quote

Darius43 Posted December 31, 2023 Author Posted December 31, 2023 Built today from the Niu Models 3D printed kit. A very well designed kit that was a pleasure to build. Cheers Darius 4 Quote
Darius43 Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 Built from the Niu Models 3D printed resin kit. Minor Niggles:- Some of the chassis parts were slightly “banana-shaped”. Hot and cold water immersion resolved that issue. The decals need to be individually cut from the sheet as the carrier film covers the whole sheet. The bogie axle boxes clash with the vertical legs of the brake levers, which may inhibit cornering. Some fettling required I shortened the drawbar between the well wagon and the flat wagon that supports the outer end of the gun barrel by about 10mm. As provided it places the wagons too far apart compared to the prototype photo on the Niu Models thread. Cheers Darius 2 Quote
Darius43 Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 The first wagon is a Midland Railway wagon from around WW1. The second “well wagon” version is an LNER variant from the inter-war period. Cheers Darius 1 Quote

David Holman Posted January 22 Posted January 22 A real blast from the past. A group of us were discussing MTK kits at the club only last week. Pretty good for their day, though also known for the El Crappo range of 7mmNG kits. The models have turned out rather well, methinks! 1 1 Quote
Darius43 Posted February 6 Author Posted February 6 Another MTK product taking shape - a 4-GRI EMU (Buffet/Griddleversion of the 4-COR EMU. Started with this just over a week ago. Now at this stage. One more driving coach to complete before final painting and interior detailing. Cheers Darius 9 Quote
irishmail Posted February 6 Posted February 6 W&H models, that's going back a bit! Went to the shop in New Cavendish street a few times in the late 1980's before they closed down. was a great shop for central London. 1 Quote

Colin Massingham, of whom it was said that he was a stranger to engineering drawings, preferring instead to guesstimate by eye - see his early Steamcast kits for various BR Standard engines. The Elcrappo brand also covered his 7mm standard gauge kits. Quote

Darius43 Posted February 21 Author Posted February 21 (edited) Whole interior airbrushed a wood panelling colour - plus a coat of acrylic varnish (Klear). Home made upholstery decal sheet cut to fit the seats. And applied to each seat. Armrests painted to match. Tabletops painted a lighter wood colour. Almost complete - still need to paint the floor. Floor painted. Cheers Darius Edited February 21 by Darius43 5 2 Quote

Darius43 Posted February 29 Author Posted February 29 (edited) For the next MTK project I thought I would take things relatively easy and build the 2-HAL Stores Unit kit using some spare Hornby 2-BIL/HAL underframes to make things easier. The parts for the non-cab ends are missing from the kit so I will need to scratch build those from plasticard. Having already built the MTK 2-HAL De-icer unit this one should be relatively straightforward. The large roller doors are quite recessed on the prototype so the MTK “flush” ones will need to be cut out and replaced. Cab and roof attached and fettled to shape. Non-cab end made from plasticard and glued in place. Checking the MTK body against the Hornby HAL it’s a few mm shorter. This means it won’t fit onto the spare Hornby chassis that I had earmarked for this kit. Not to worry as I’ll make my own chassis as before. Fortunately I still have sufficient spare bogies to hand. The other advantage to making my own chassis (apart from the fit) is that, unlike the Stores Units, the Hornby ones have continuous step boards. They would need to be removed, which is not that simple as the Hornby motorised chassis is cast Mazak including the step boards. Cheers Darius Edited February 29 by Darius43 4 Quote
Galteemore Posted February 29 Posted February 29 Fascinating. Amazing to think those stores trains were still running as late as 1989. 1 Quote
Darius43 Posted February 29 Author Posted February 29 Details added. Body primed and chassis painted. Now need to build the second MBS to the same level of completion. Cheers Darius 7 Quote
