Lovely job Darius, but are you not worried that the finer details like the handrails etc. are going to suffer when the friend's grandson gets his hands on them. Depends on what age the grandson is I suppose. He could be in his twenties or thirties for all I know

Much modified Silver Fox NIR MV Class.

Modifications include:-

- Separate wire cab front and door handrails.

- Lamp irons (staples).

- Buffer beam hosiery.

- Cab access ladders to bogies.

- Remove Copydex glue that Mr Silver Fox uses everywhere and use a proper adhesive.

- Chassis and body weathering.

When you're paying that much for a Silver Fox model, the use of Copydex strikes me as daylight rubbery.

Bogie flat wagons made from spare Hornby LMS coach chassis, Bachmann LMS bogies, plasticard, card and wire.

The rails and sleepers are from gash code 100 track.

Looking at hand uncouplers online and thought I could make some myself using scraps of brass I’d collected over the years.

New project - conversion of a Hornby 08 into a D301 Class.

Body removed and disassembled. 

Handrails and piping removed

Bodysides sanded smooth to accept a thin plasticard skin.

Next steps will be a new, shallower cab, new side boxes and louvered bodyside doors from plasticard.

I may salvage the Hornby cab roof

Understood, but it seems a shame to cut up and waste most of a whole second loco just for the cab roof.  I’ll re-work the Hornby roof.

The Lima body is mostly inaccurate in the bonnet/engine room area anyway (proportions are all wrong), and the roof and cab rear are some of the few parts that don't need much if any correction. You may also be able to salvage things like the side exhauster boxes, etc.
