ger711 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Lads, Anyone got any photos of the D Class Shunters other than what few are available online. Just wondering if both side profiles are identical as I might try a Lima Class 08 conversion in the future. Thanks for any help. Ger. Quote
0 jhb171achill Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 A British Rail 08 is close enough. Quick slap of black paint and away ye go! Quote
0 heirflick Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 ger, got a hornby 08 and the beauty with this model is that the storage boxes at the sides could be removed to closely resemble the D class. this one is sound fitted and runs very well. 1 Quote
0 BosKonay Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 That's just gorgeous heirflick Any advice for souls thinking an 08 and a lick of black paint will do a nice job? Quote
0 Dave Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Lovely job, must do that to my class 08, where did you get the transfers? Quote
0 heirflick Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 steven, she is far from perfect, the cab doors (which can be left open on this model) are to far from the cad face, but it will do me nicely! hattons are selling 08's for 49 quid at the moment......go on - get one....you know you want too!!!! 0 BosKonay Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 She looks great! Will definitely chance me arm at it Quote
0 Warbonnet Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 The Hornby 08 is the best one out there (super detail job mind you, not the ancient old trainset one missing the outside frames!) but the Bachmann one is nearly as good. Bachmann also do the outside door strapping variation of the 08 which I believe the CIE D's had as well? Quote
0 heirflick Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 good review-'an iron deadness sort of grunt'.....now thats the best description of a motor sound i ever heard! lovely model though Quote
0 BosKonay Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I have an older railroad 08, which isnt great, but have a couple of hornby 08's and a bachmann, will dig out the boxes as soon as I get a chance. Would be a nice little runner in front of a short rake of freight, or shunting a few cravens Quote
0 ger711 Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 Thanks for the replies lads, just what have I started now though? Dozens of D Class on the Workbench! Ger. Quote
0 BosKonay Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Yep Dug out me old hornby one. She even has lights. Now to get some black spray paint :) Quote

0 Sentinel281 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Lads, Anyone got any photos of the D Class Shunters other than what few are available online. Just wondering if both side profiles are identical as I might try a Lima Class 08 conversion in the future. Do you have any books on cie/ir? There are even colour pictures in some of them. By this, I got to know they had at least two liveries, green and black. Due to copyright reasons it is alas not possible to post the pictures here. One is in the "colour picture books" of Tom Ferris, another one in the Irish traction Diesels booklet. I myself did not find any picture from the left hand side, presuming the coolers are on the front and the cab on the backside. I would also be interested in such a picture. Until now I hesitated about converting a 08 class because of the cases at the sides; now, thanks heirflick, I know they are removable, thats really great! About that bargain: I could not find one for 49 whatevers, be it pound stg or Euro(n)s. Did you already buy them all? Quote
0 heirflick Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) sentinel.....https://railsofsheffield.com/bachmann-32-101-class-08-d3729-br-green-diesel-shunter-32-117-JJJA6002.aspx away you go now and get one! shes not hornby but im nearly sure the side boxes can be removed. for the price id chance it anyway! 0 Garfield Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I was hoping to post a link to a photo of a D in Black and Tan livery that I saw some time ago, but it appears it is no longer online (could've been on Fotopic). Should've saved a copy! Quote
0 jhb171achill Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I've seen one too - they didn't stay that way loong, and in fact I wouldn't be certain all of them had the tan, instead just being black / white. Quote
