201bhoy
Just saw a 201 in intercity livery whizz past my house LE. I don't think I've seen anything go past here that fast towards Dublin! Maybe it was just because it was light engine... anyone know the purpose?
Glenderg
"20:50 Connolly Belfast will be a bus transfer from Dundalk to Belfast due to mechanical problem on earlier train" ala Irish rail on Twitter. Possibly the rescue loco to get the stock back into position for tomorrow?
UP6936
Apparently a fire occurred on the 201 working the train and it had to be stopped and all the passengers taken off. They uncoupled the stock and brought a replacement loco, according to BBC news

BabyGM
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-22805136 Here's a link I wonder how it started it says it occured in the engine compartment
Railer
Any idea how it started ? Excessive HEP use. 206 burst into flames almost 10 years ago working the Enterprise, the loco was almost a write off and spent about 18 months being rebuilt and re wired. The 201s were not designed for HEP and GM recommended against it but IE wanted it. 208 and 231 failed in the last week too. As soon as the EGVs are returned to service the better. 230 won't be working trains for a long time.

UP6936
I think I remember hearing a niggle had developed with them, as they had been in use previously. I might be wrong though

Warbonnet
i wonder will she ever re-enter service? They should have enough 201 bits to put it back together. Some of the original Enterprise livery engines sure are looking rough these days.
Riversuir226
Hopefully she ll be back, hopefully this incident will lead to the re introduction of the egv and stop the high hep hours that the 201' s are suffering from.

BosKonay
looks to be lots of damage, you can see the smoke marks from the cab windows.
Riversuir226
Id be more worried if it had scorch marks over the windows. Hopefully the structural frame hasn t been compramised with the heat cause if it has shes a goner. Practically everything else could be repaired or replaced IF theres enough finance and more importantly the will to put her back in service, which I hope they do. Flying Scotsman 4472
If the damage is bad I would say she will end up on the scrapheap getting cannibalised to keep the rest of them going. Bring back the 071's/Mk3's on the enterprise twice the age of the 201's and twice the loco. Its just a shame it wasn't a railcar that went up in smoke. kevrail
Maybe it is a new marketing feature for Translink. "Travel with a real living Fire". Or perhaps they are having a barbyon the trains for passengers. Typical Translink

Nothing to do with Translink they just tried to better IE by burning a railcar=))

Irish Rail said on Facebook that the MK3 EGVs will return to service this month. But this was over a month ago and before this incident.
