Oh, come on DOWN (pun definitely intended). Assuming that you're still at the same address, you're already on the main road to Dublin!

Thanks for the reply's, i haven't been through the tolls in years are they all e-toll now or do they still take cash ?  Looks like ill only go through the Drogheda toll.

Cash and etoll both accepted. It’s €2.30 on the M1 I think and something similar if you go round the M50 (must be paid online) to get to the venue, you can go through the tunnel and along the coast to avoid the M50, just takes slightly longer (not sure how easy that will be to do on Sunday though)

Do you know if parking will be available in the Fire Brigade Training Centre again this year?

Yes, overflow as per 2024

Right so what's the story with IRM at the show - they dropped a cryptic hint on Facebook about 'never before seen goodies' so does that suggest an announcement......?  I think Fran hinted a while back that a C class might be on the horizon......

Let's annoy folks with some wild speculation!!!

Well over on RMweb this afternoon I couldn’t help but notice Fran enthusing about diesel hydraulics…

So, how about an E class, G class or K class?
Or start the narrow gauge range with a BnM loco?

(But really I’m hoping for a C class)

There are plenty more wagons to go at, but I wonder if the Bulleid wagons and the bubbles re-run have satisfied the market in the short term. Several variants of the 20’ container flats would appeal - these got converted into many other things.

On carriages, possibly some more Park Royal variants? They all sold out and I think the tooling would allow the main line variants and some of the brake variants to be done quite easily.

When IRM or anyone else plan a new model, the business case for selling units is the only show in town, no matter what enthusiasts "would like", or what is historically important (e.g. a NCC "Jeep", 80 class railcar, or GNR & CIE AEC / BUT railcars.

As the 800 class and NIR "Hunslets" have shown, even an extremely "niche" model - as both are - CAN sell, though obviously many others mightn't move at all.

Taking into account potential business cases, including the sizes of most people's layout spaces and budgets, perhaps some of the more desirable future models might be the "C" and "G" classes; an 0.6.0 steam loco (tank or tender), an NCC "WT" class 2.6.4T "Jeep", a wooden-bodied coach of GSR / early CIE era, and either 80 class or AEC railcars. I think the wagon scene has been pretty well covered for most uses - guard's vans are of course necessary, but Provincial / CK Prints have covered those gaps very well indeed. The only other glaring omissions are at least 2 or 3 variants of "tin vans" (luggage and heating). These are vital for very late 1950s through to mid 1970s CIE modelling. Possibly CK Prints might be a suitable manufacturer for these?

An afterthought; with "0" gauge modelling gathering a small following, an "0" gauge "G" class would be a boon. CK Prints are offering "0" gauge wagons, and very good they are too. Ideal for a small shunting layout - a G and a few H vans or Bullied opens in "0"!

Hi everyone,

My guesses are more towards the steam side of the spectrum, although I do believe it will be a C Class diesel this year, going by some of the things I've seen on the forums over the past year.

But then again, as a wild card, we could see one of two possible steam locomotives announced instead of a diesel. I believe there are two very strong contenders.

My first contender would be No. 74, Dunluce Castle.

If you remember what IRM/Accurascale wrote in their original 800 Class announcement, they mentioned having to scan the real locomotive to help get the details just right.

Now, if I were in their position, I would certainly take the opportunity to scan a locomotive that I planned, or at least hoped, to bring to market in OO gauge someday.

To me, an NCC tender locomotive would make a lot of sense, especially considering its close relationship to the Midland Railway 2P in the UK. This could open up plenty of possibilities for both the Irish and British markets.

My second strong contender would be the GNR(I) S Class 4-4-0, No. 171 Slieve Gullion.

It's a very pretty locomotive and would look wonderful alongside the many British pre-grouping locomotives that have come to market in recent years.

I think No. 171 and her sisters would be a fantastic choice, in my opinion.

Furthermore, she would look right at home at the head of the wonderful IRM and Murphy Models Mk2 RPSI set. I would absolutely love to see that running around my layout!

But at the end of the day, we all know it has to be the one and only V Class Compound, No. 85 "Merlin"!

I mean, who could possibly say no to that!!! 😁

Anyway, those are my guesses. It will be interesting to see what actually gets announced!

Thanks everyone,

85 Merlin

I think you’re right that the best options for steam loco models are those that still exist, and preferably in the RPSI operating fleet (present or past). Not just available for scanning, but appealing to modellers of a wider range of eras.
I’m sure a blue 4-4-0 would be popular!

I think the Jeeps are very likely for the next steam announcement, but probably the C class is ahead of them in the queue. But will a new powered model be announced in Clontarf? I'd say its more likely to be unpowered. Maybe its not even rolling stock 🤔 Aren't we due a footbridge sometime soon?
