  1. It is an interesting that there is pretty much one way traffic on shipping containers that are manufactured in China, ship goods to Europe and the US and then are not shipped back in sufficient quantities.
  2. Anyone seen the cover of IRRS journal October 2020 #203 with a liner train full of old B&I 20Ft containers and an article?
  3. LMAO You can hear him accelerate to gun the red light. Literacy might be a problem for him too. The guy turning right decided to take another route with less debris. Only comment would be to have the I-beam much further from the under bridge in suitable locations (not here), may 200 feet. We've see seen a lot artics/big rigs pass quite a long distance under the bridge before coming to the halt if the clearance is marginal and the trail deformable. Better to hit an I-beam than the the bridge. Agree with @Broithe probably better place on a section of straight road before the bridge itself. A buttressing bar behind the I-beam on each side will add considerably to the strength
  4. There are over 3000 bridges with over 400 under bridges being less than 16'6" and at risk for excess strikes. Maybe he has shares in a company with a tender in to do the work on the additional 2600 under bridges ?
  5. ..... or horses that are far away?
  6. I don't know for sure but I suspect that a 9'6" high cube might need a lowered floor such as a pocket wagon to stay within the Irish loading gauge
  7. I just arrived in from a long day at work and priorities being what they are I decided to forego non-essential items like food and in preference constructed an email to Dave Mylett on behalf of the modelers on this side of the pond principally in the Chicago and Dallas metro areas plus myself. THEN I returned to see if there had been any discussion on this subject at all and was pleased to see that several members had actually taken the time to put pen to paper to Hattons. Thank you all. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  8. That's pretty much a requirement for railway modeling and shouldn't be construed as a deficiency
  9. Fantastic! I have new expectations for IRM's 800 Class
  10. Thought you were going to throw up some photos of the spice rack there for a mo'
  11. So who pay s for the damage caused to the bridge etc, the HGV insurance? I suspect that most HGV drivers use GPS navigation. Easy to have a database of bridge heights and input your vehicle heights if they can manage that much
  12. I've seen that video before. She did a good job. As my instructor used to say, "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing .... " It's a funny thing, first solos, mine involved our PA-28 Tomahawk and a Korean Air 747F at SNN but that's for another day.
  13. I'm sorry to see the 747s go from passenger traffic and the A380s also. Despite their 'ugliness' you have to admire the engineerings marvels of both aircraft. The A380s will persist in the Middle east and Asia for a while. There is no question the large twins are very reliable but large and small twin engine aircraft have still has some issues with double engine failure due to icing issues in the 777s and dual flameouts due to birdstrikes (US airways and Ryanair immediately spring to mind). As for high speed rail, it is not really feasible in the US. I'm contemplating whether to drive 2.5k miles to ski in the rockies this winter (might still fly tbh)
  14. Seriously, that's crazy. You can only insert one per loco after all and the 121s have not sold out yet. I'd wager that IRM and Marks have by far the largest allocation on the Irish market (especially since there are not that many model shops left). So much for the conversations on supporting Irish retailers when they're sold out well before time, although it's possible there may be more coming from ESU not ready yet. I guess we'll have to support the box shifters out of necessity (if they have any of course). The sound chips for other locos seemed to hang around for a while. I suspect there has been an increase in the number of DCC layouts and the number of modelers interested in DCC sound previously just on DCC. I feel a sudden uptick in sound chips from wheeltappers etc.
  15. IRM seem to be sold out of all the DCC and sound chips already
  16. An 800? No idea. If IRM doesn't do it, none would. Would it sell? Absolutely! Now whether it would sell enough to make it worthwhile versus say an A class with 17 variants, I doubt that. I know that collectors would get one or multiples or three if 801 and 802 were available. Personally I would run mine especially if we had some 1950s laminate stock to go with it. The price point cannot be higher than paying nearly STG300 for a OOworks J15 or attempting to assemble an 800 in brass. Over the years, we have seen some fine examples by experienced brass builders and some not so fine ones by those attempting an 800 but unable to complete it to a satisfactory standard as a complicated build. One could commission your build but that would makes a pretty high price point also. Maybe you could sell it with some laminates as the newer Bachmann 00651 set which was produced both for the European market and also the US market. That set is still sought after even thought the loco is not entirely prototypical (but close) and the carriages are not prototypical. I have no doubt Park Royals will be produced at some point but whether I'll be around to see it I don't know Anyway to get back to topic, I bought a weed sprayer set for the flats and planned to repurpose the container and tanks. It arrived, the wife saw it and said it was a loverly little thing when I explained what it was for, so now I'lll have to look for some headboards with wasp stripes for one of my 141s. It can go on display for now I guess we'll need some 20' CIE tanks then too
  17. Is this the same wagon ? John's looks to be vertically planked. Were they paneled over in steel sheet? (c) Brian Flanagan
  18. Waiting on some CIE ballasts to run with CIE & IR ploughs, or gypsums, and blue Taras, and A classes (happy to wait) and AEC railcars, and CIE 'laminates', and 800 class, and Bandon tank and .......
  19. Ah, cr@p, @mmie353. I thought there was an update. Great little wagon this one
  20. The only picture of coal wagons in Rails though North Kerry is on page 52 with a rake of 21/22 open topped 20ft coal wagon on the Foynes Ballina laden run on 22/3/1993. The photo on p68 of Rails through the West would probably offer more detail on this matter since you already have a copy.
  21. This? https://railsofsheffield.com/products/35410/oxford-rail-or76tk2003-oo-gauge-12-ton-tank-wagon-british-bitumen-colfix-no-56
  22. I think these were the same as routing from Foynes obviously open topped, perhaps someone will have a better picture https://www.flickr.com/photos/152343870@N07/40244086331/in/photolist-pEtTHF-pWE8Vg-24jesYD-24jesR4-22WTRTe-24jesHt-24jesMr-Ga1CFQ-234bNXp
  23. Done. Shame IRM is not there but probably outvoted by sheer numbers in the British outline market anyway
