  1. In the 'antiquated days' the signalman would not have allowed you into the station until it was clear to do so, nor the guard out of it if a passenger was running down the platform. So what happens now, the road is set all the way to Cork with greens set all the way by the CTC?
  2. It might be possible to find a donor motor/chassis that you can 'drop' the body onto. The axles are asymmetric on the Es so most likely you won't find an exact match, but it might be possible to move an unpowered middle axle fairly easily. I know this E/421 is in bad shape but the chassis is seen pretty well apart from the bases of the wheels themselves
  3. We need them by March https://www.flickr.com/photos/152343870@N07/26278229928/in/photolist-2arjFys-2ddJqoK-G37NeN-ejt8FF-KkZPRP-R53JLj-24oZQkA
  4. Volume 16 starts as N0. 99 Feb 1986 thru No 107 October 1988 so maybe No 104 or something. Someone associated with the IRRS might be able to help @leslie10646 or if a member has these volumes (unfortunately, I do not), maybe somone would have a quick flick through and see if there's an article in there that would interest you
  5. There is a clustering of reference to MK3s in Vol16 pp. 360-364 but I am not sure if that article is specifically about that MK3 coaches. The June 1985 is a nice cover with the Mk3s in the ST livery and the 071 in original (incorrect, as delivered) color and incorrect CIE roundel
  6. Great shot! Two separate 20" containers, 1977?
  7. Following this thread with interest, John (hoping I can make one )
  8. Post that Lyons if to hand please, jhb
  9. A couple more oddities, 20ft Lyons tea And some which are just crackers Unfortunately no evidence that these were transported by rail, at least not the 1980s 40' containers
  10. Water cranes required again 50 years on?
  11. There is some great detail in those photos, buses, bridges and interesting rolling stock. Shame to see the bridges etc discarded now. Thanks for posting, Dave!
  12. The instanter couplings (modified three link) keep the buffers under compression in transit and won't go round tight curves in sidings like at North Wall without creating slack by turning the vertical center link horizontally. This is normally performed by a shunter with the hook but should be done on all couplings to prevent them coming under excessive strain
  13. There's a reason it says "3m HIGH" on the side of the Eucon high cubes (3 into 4.3 won't go .....)
  14. The old reliables ...
  15. I did actually vote for those but the vote will be split between the those and the Taras
  16. I hope not ... (well, not yet anyway)... more modern

  18. God, you're not wrong although you could say that same for the cement bubbles with only 3-6 being definitely identifiable with the Irish cement logo visible (in part)
  19. That's new!
  20. As John says the C class were re-engined, as such got a new lease of lease of life, redesignated B class when their 550hp engine were replaced with 1100hp (iirc). Several of the C class were sold to NIR as the 104 class although they were not really used to their capacity by NIR. I love the As and I'm glad for once that the silver, greens , black and BnT might be selling a little more slowly as this is my main interest and allows a little more time to gather the cash for these together. I do hope they will not be sold out on arrival and there will be enough ti hang round for a reasonable period of time so modellers can accumulate what stock they'd really like over a bit of time and potential new modelers might see them in the flesh for sale. Personally I hope that C class are not next to come as they were far fewer than the As and looked similar to them. I'd prefer to see some variety, railcars or locos lasting fairly late in steam to provide some appeal to the masses. I even had some post-1923 grouping coaches and steam and they remain quite popular in the UK because the models merely had been available, something which has never really been possible with Irish rolling stock.
  21. What era does that stacker cover (earliest year in use). Looks quite modern especially if still in use. I was wondering what would have been in use earlier like more like 60s/70s if anyone knows (and if there a similar OO model available) at all?
  22. Thanks looked at that photo. I have the GSR book by Murray. Shame that picture is so small. there don't seem to be many closer views or from another angle but reasonable view of the gantry all right. These old coaches are very interesting but don't have a great knowledge of the DSER stock. Nice 1950s built composite in the background and brake laminate behind the DSER
  23. I know there is a perception they will might be more popular but at least there has been some rtr versions of the Mk3. Mk4 is about as far from my modeling interest as you can get but that's just personal interest. They're limited geographically and time wise from my point of view whereas the earlier coaches ran nearly everywhere for a long period. I will say I would have made an exception and bought (Supertrain )Mk3s if they had come out! We live in hope for our personal interests I suppose.
  24. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area could definitely do with that extension but I wondering how the DFW airport will fit in with it through trains as it is a branch. The way the terminal are set up is kinda messy, transferring from one terminal to another by car is bad, easier by train but the time taken in the airport by the DART would prolong the travel time between the cities if the trains take an extra five terminal stops in the middle
  25. Carriages would be nice (especially CIE build 50s built)
