And so far it certainly is another classic….take note IRM…..there are lots of potential future projects to be seen….

In Belfast today and plan to try and buy a copy of this new book. Failed visited 2 bookshops who told me to try Amazon. Third bookshop said we will order it but it is not published till February! So no new book bought!

Many thanks, Keith. For projects like that I have always gone to Oakwood (now Stenlake Press) for this type of thing, or Colourpoint (now Blackstaff) for colour "picture books". One has to pick and choose publishers in terms of paper quality and photographic reproduction. Over the years many an excellent publication that I have seen has been spoiled somewhat by indifferent colour rendition or sharpness of image. Oakwood have, of course, one of the oldest pedigrees of the lot for railway books, going back to the mid 1930s, I believe. Of the two principals in Oakwood, one retired shortly after I started Clifden, and she rang me to tell me they were being sold out to Stenlake. The other "half" of Oakwood still works with / for Stenlakes, specialising in railway books done in the Oakwood style, such as this. Stenlake's other books, in their own "house style" is very different in format. Nothing wrong with it, just different.

My copy arrived today direct from Blackstaff to here in rural Tasmania, not bad considering order was 22 November. I anticipate some great Christmas reading.

Amazon claimed to have delivered my copy but it wasn't in our letterbox as stated. Asked around the neighbours etc. but nobody had it. Driver seems to have dumped it or dropped it off somewhere completely wrong. Anyway, Amazon returned my money and I have reordered this morning, having given it a week to see if someone would come by with it. 

Edit: The initial order was with Amazon UK. The new order is with Amazon Germany it seems. Price has dropped by a fiver too.

Happened me with DPD last week (on something else). I got a notification that it had been delivered (I can see my postbox from my home office) and also that it was signed for!! Apparently the local driver just marks them all as delivered and signed for in the morning before he heads out  onto DPD and di some persuading to get him to go back, pick it up and bring it to me - the eircode was literally printed on the box :shrug

Received my copy in the post this morning. Some lovely stuff in there. Apart from the obvious, which for me is locos and rolling stock, there's some excellent shots of the various goods sidings and yards used throughout the period. These are invaluable when it comes to modelling. 

Anyone else notice the Shales carrying the  blue, looks to be quite similar to the original Tara's. Have to say, they look the business in that colour, and was a new one on me. 

I'll have to sit down over the weekend with a can of the black stuff, and have a proper read of this. Another excellent release, Jonathan.

Finally got to read this cover to cover.  The quality of print and level of information provided is amazing.  As someone who grew up in the shadows of the Galtees, this volume has a strong connection for me.

Yeah I bought mine from Amazon UK but it was shipped directly from the printers in Belfast so no duty was paid.

We have, actually, considered various ideas. When we started "Rails Through the West", it was never meant to be anything other than a one-off. Both of us were - and still are - busy with other projects of our own.

Then "Rails through North Kerry" was borne of one night's slide viewing, and long discussions which followed. And so on.

We've both agreed that if and when the day has 25 hours, the week has nine days, and the year has fifteen months; and we both become insomniacs, gawd knows what we'll come up with. But as of now, we've one more thing on the boil. We'll see after that. I'm in the middle of a separate project, and Barry is also. With covid, both of the the historical archives that we need to get into, in our own separate projects, are currently closed to researchers. I'm hoping to get into one in the new year; the other, which both of us need separately, is not yet available.

So a series, as such, probably not - due to time and "life" getting in the way; we will jointly and separately plough on, however, and see what the future holds.

Much appreciated - I will pass on to Barry. As normal, while I do the scribbling, the photos are almost 100% his. We will only use one from a different source if there is some issue we want to illustrate and Barry either doesn't have an image which shows it (VERY rare!), or the issue is a view before his time photographing (e.g. Cashel and the Thurles - Clonmel branch).

We're working away on our next, and possibly final "picture" project. He's in the middle of several other projects, as well as being involved ion the IRRS Journal production and I am in the middle of two entirely separate projects, one being a history (similar to the last Clifden book) plus another thing....! So the almost inevitable coming lockdown will see us both kept busy.

Both Barry and myself have kept modeller's interests and needs very much in mind when selecting photos. We will continue to do this.
