WRENNEIRE Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) He did produce a catalogue for the toy fair in Nuremberg earlier in the year A quickly put together job with a few mistakes However it does not encompass his full production run The term catalogue in my previous post was a general term not a reference to an actual catalogue Some pics just for you Paul. And if you do manage to escape in 30 days I will see if I can pick you up one instead of a watch! Edited November 26, 2017 by WRENNEIRE 1 Quote

josefstadt Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 The volumes of locos produced '... 504 0f 077 & 085 with only 252 of 111 & 8113 ...' seems strange. Any idea why it isn't, say, 500 or 250? Quote
BosKonay Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I think it's to do with how many fit in a box iirc, 6 locos to a box, thats 84 boxes. Quote
josefstadt Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Thanks Stephen. I knew there had to be a logical explanation, but couldn't figure out what it was. Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 (edited) Lima ( Lavarazione Italia Metalli ed Affini) was founded to produce toy cars & boats etc in 1949. in 1958 they moved into producing toy trains which were manufactured in HO Scale. They made their first N Gauge models in 1966, there were Italian outline (surprise surprise) and they were available in the UK. Lines Brothers, who owned Tri Ang did a deal with Lima in 1967 whereby they used one of their subsidiaries, G&R Wrenn, to sell the Lima products and they then allowed Lima to produce their Big Big Train under license. Because of the success of their N Gauge models Lima decided in 1973 to enter the British market because there was only one main supplier at the time. Unfortunately for them they entered with HO scale models and as they were smaller than their OO Gauge counterparts they did not do as well as expected. They slowly started to replace their HO models with OO models and by 1977 they had completely replaced the HO ones. In 1977 Wrenn withdrew from their agreement with Lima and it is around this time that Lexie Keady and John Byrne were introduced to the Lima people because of their friendship with the Wrenn brothers. So starting with HO and moving onto N & OO we can see where we were before the current Murphy Models catalogue was produced and get down on our hands and knees to thank the man for saving us from these models. Aussie Phil Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Amazing the similarities between the Australian model railway scene and the Irish one. We started out with a handful of repainted UK and US models in the 70s and progressed to some basic prototypical models and better since then. We are now at a point where the market has produced almost all the locos from the 90-00s era, a wide range of steam and more wagons than you can ever possibly collect. Down side is cost and that it is no long a challenge to model Aussie railways. Thank for the history mate. Enjoy reading this thread immensely. Great collection you have. One to be jealous of. 1 Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Cheers Phil Still a lot of stuff to cover, Lima did some O Gauge & N Gauge in Irish livery's and there is some Hornby Irish as well Also hope to cover the MIR Freight range and some other bits, so stay tuned! Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 I have been pulling the house apart looking for a boxed version of the Lima HO A Class (Cl33) 8015 in case anyone has one lying around I have only found one which is incorrectly boxed, still a few places to search but its not looking good Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 (edited) HO "A" Class Non original box's but both are for Cl 33's The difference in box height has been shown before Edited November 26, 2017 by WRENNEIRE Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 (edited) Been neglecting the thread lately but hope that this yoke might be of interest to any Lima collectors here Possibly the hardest Lima Irish item to obtain so far, Thanks Dan, ye robbin bastard! A lot of anomalies concerning this wagon methinks 303 prefix usually indicates a HO item, a lot of the time the 30 is not present and the prefix just then becomes 3*** So this is then a HO wagon but given OO bogies and couplings and a W on its description to indicate OO couplings Check out 303202 to see the bogie/coupling difference Lima Sundries Wagon, be still my beating heart, as one of our own might say. This shows where the box was adjusted in the factory to cater for the OO Bogie & Coupling Alternative box Edited November 27, 2017 by WRENNEIRE Quote
Warbonnet Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 now that is a rarity. How many were made Dave? Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 No idea Fran, but not a lot Catalogued as 1982 - 83 Even the box is a quare yoke Has a second Lima token in the Lima Models signage on the box The Lima Models appears on the right hand side of the box end, usually appears on the left No sketch of the enclosed item, whereas usually there is a sketch on the box end The plot thickens!
