jhb171achill
WOW! Models look amazing. Likewise, I like it more now it's seen (and well photographed) out'n'about. Interesting that some se a "bluish tint" in it; same was said of newly painted Inchicore locos back in the day. My father, who was very familiar with Inchicore from the 1920s, used that exact description of newly painted locos. The grey used 1918 - the very end - on all locos pre 1950, and most post 1950, was a shade darker, as witnessed on 186 - which according to him, is exactly the right shade of grey. The new 071 livery has a yellow patch in place of a red buffer beam as the onle and only relief from all-over sheep dipped grey - same as steam engines in the past. Just when we all thought the last of the old Inchicore traditions had gone, up comes this! Even the new logo (OK, go on, shoot me) looks fine to me with that livery. jhb171achill
Why does the last digit of the numb er vary, and why can't they make the "077" bit larger, or even a different colour, as on railcars? Also, why can't they seek exemption due to inability to mix with other ralway operators in mainland Europe - as some self contained railways have been able to do? Guest hidden-agenda
Brilliant pics W if you get the chance can you show the different buffers they are fitted with as those of us up north rely on you pics for info. Re G.
thewanderer
John, All you need to know about our wonderful new number scheme. http://rsc.ie/download/pdf/rscg021_guidance_note.pdf The document is a few years old and it would seem the number scheme has changed as it is suggested 077 should be 92-60-2710077-? The last digit is the self check number.

The way to look at it is that the 071's are getting a hell of a lot of work done to them so in theory they should be around for a lot more years. Mayner
Apart from the poncy logo and nonesence with UIC lettering, like the NIR 111 a plain colour scheme really suites these locos. All she needs is a set of whitemetal number plates with a large GSR road services logo in the centre of the hood. Definitely Darth Vaders or possibly the Emperors engine. BosKonay
Is it just me, or was use of the wash more frequent in IR days? The locos look much more pristine in those days (rose tinted glasses perhaps)

gm171 kk
"To mark the upcoming 35th anniversary of the introduction of the 071 class locomotives to the Irish railway system,IE has decided to repaint loco 078 back into its original 1977 CIE Supertrain livery, 078 was observed recently being pushed into the paint shop by 085,it is expected to be released to traffic next month in coincide with the anniversary, 078 was the first loco to receive IR white stripe livery back in 1987,and this was also the 10th anniversary of the class, The repainting of 078 will also coincide with the forthcoming and much anticipated release of Murphy models 071 later in the year." it's a pitty that was a cruel April fools joke by ttc0169.
