Garfield
That's a tidy-looking build, JB!
jhb171achill
Very tidy indeed, Garfield. I can't take the credit though, much as I'd love to have that sort of modelling skill. David built it for me.
DiveController
What chassis does it run on JB?
jhb171achill
A 4.6.0, DiveController! :-) (Running for cover.....!) Seriously though.... the whole thing came with the kit.
Glenderg
It's a superb build, hat's off to the builder. One issue JB - ... Therefore, for anyone wanting the correct pre-1955 carriage green, or CIE bus or (occasional) steam locomotive green, or what the B113 and D class were originally painted in, there ye go. Same paint is on 800, though ignore the UFTM's incorrect "G S" lettering on the tender. Whas da story, man!
jhb171achill
Good question, Glenderg. The green on the model is GSR green, as you'll see somewhat lighter than CIE's, and with a slight bluish tint. The lining is yellow and black, with G S lettering and crest, as it ought to be in Cultra. CIE painted the one in Cultra, and in their own green with their own black and white (not yellow) lining. Thus, the one in Cultra should instead have a flying snail. The inaccuracy in the real 800 is that it's in CIE livery with GSR markings. DiveController
A 4.6.0, DiveController! :-) (Running for cover.....!) Seriously though.... the whole thing came with the kit. That's right. Sorry, I forgot everything could be purchased with Weshty's kit. Asked David to do one for me a very long time ago but didn't have the time. now I know why, he's been working on yours! Lovely model she looks smashing!
Dave
That is stunning. The detail is phenomenon.
Noel
Now that is what I call a genuine quality build and a proper model. The precision and resolution of the model is quite simply in a league of its own. Hats of to the builder, and best wishes to the new owner. It looks so pleasing to the eye. Would love to see a video of it running some day.
Flying Scotsman 4472
Absoutly fantastic workmanship there David that is one of the best builds I've seen in along time. If Carlsberg did builds you'd be the man. Your one lucky guy jhb

jhb171achill
Thanks for the comments, gents. It has pride of place for the moment. I'll get it running soon! It is indeed an absolute beauty. It was my retirement present to myself a few years ago! Thanks again to David for a phenomenal build job. Mike 84C
Beautiful loco,to exhibition standard, I have severe loco envy! Enjoy, as I"m sure you will.
jhb171achill
To provide contrast, and motive power for a possible future small shunting layout, it'll be followed up by a very weathered, work-stained looking J15.
Weshty
JHB, that is a cracking completed model. Dave has excelled himself, because that is not a simple kit to tackle. Hats off. I can only gather that Christmas has come early for you.
jhb171achill
Happy Christmas to me, Weshty! Yes, Dave certainly excelled himself. There's no way I could have begun to tackle a job like that myself. Well worth getting it done properly.
leslie10646
Yes, John, that's a very fine engine and a credit to David. The green looks pretty good to me - you could hold it against Drew's model at Cultra? HE probably used the original paint - these senior men did that sort of thing! Now ..... Have you got ten Bredins to run behind it? If you haven't, bring it over to Surrey and I'll loan you ten GN coaches to hang behind it and we'll hammer it round my loft!!!! Great stuff. Leslie
jhb171achill
The green on mine is the GSR variety, Leslie. Drew painted almost all of his models in the (darker) CIE green, as on the real 800 in Cultra. Drew had a great liking for CIE green and painted everything that way, bar a MGWR loco which he rid in MGWR green. With ten GNR coaches it would look like the 1950s Cork "Enterprise"! GSR 800
At the October show, there was a picture of meadhb with enterprise headboards, for a second I thought it was a very strange looking VS class! How did they get the GNR coaches from Amiens street to Kingsbridge? I'm thinking the Phoenix park tunnel but I really don't know
jhb171achill
That's exactly what they did, Harry. Short lived though.
UP6936
JB, instead of being the whole GNR set worked through to Cork, am I right in saying it was a single coach worked across to Heuston and attached to a CIE rake?
Warbonnet
Absolutely stunning job. Had a chat with the builder yesterday, his skills were tested to the limits but what brilliant results. Kit manufacturer, kit builder and owner can all be proud of this excellent model!
Kirley
Absolutely fabulous build David, very well done. Hoping the skills you picked up in this build will transfer to your forthcoming 461 build and in that case it will be worth the long wait. I had always thought it was the whole set, UP. I've certainly seen a picture of what appears to be a full GNR set in Cork. There was a diner on it - though to be fair that could have been a CIE one. You're making me think; I'd need to check! Assumptions can be dangerous.....!

UP6936
I saw a piece of film showing no.406 arriving at Limerick Jct with an entire GNR set,a strange looking spectacle. I stand corrected! I can imagine it was strange, I'd love to see that piece or film. What years did the Cork service run? Just wondering if any A class haulage may have featured! Oh and it would be rude to comment yet again without saying, lovely model JB, really top class
GSR 800
The enterprise was extended to cork in 1950 but didn't even get to see dieselisation. It was stopped in 1953, probably due to the fact that it over 5 hours long.i believe the film was in Tom ferris film, from Belfast to Baltimore. jhb171achill
Here's one for ye all. I had a dream. I was talking to someone who told me that they were going to make 0 gauge models of the 800 class and paint them black..... Thankfully, I woke up.....! Psychologists: make of that what you will.
