Guest hidden-agenda Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Lovely job K will get out to you shortly to see her in the flesh. Quote
ger711 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Great job, it is hard work. Unfortunately all my LED's broke off, even the replacement ones. They are just too fragile even with a dab of glue on them. Hopefully will have B110 finished soon. Ger. Quote
Warbonnet Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Thats a real top job Kirley, well done on that as it looks like the hours of work you put into the kit was worth it, especially around the cab fronts and roof. Quote
Hunslet 102 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 The B101 looks brilliant Kirley,a great piece of modelling and she looks so at home in front of that mixed freight train.Great work, well done Quote
Weshty Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Kirley, really lovely job done and great weathering. Top class. Quote
Kirley Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) My very first venture into kit building was a NIR Hunslet. In 2010 I made a second one adding lights to both. Both were kits by MIR but with their demise I was still outstanding the 3rd member of the Hunslet fleet. When John of Silver Fox Models bought the rights from MIR this was my chance to get my third locomotive. The Silver Fox kit was £46 plus providing a Bachmann Class 20 chassis. The kit comprises of a Resin body and the mould is of the complete body not like the MIR one where you added brass grills, roof panels, hand rail along with white metal buffers and other small pieces. My first thought was to add my own hand rails etc but then decided just to do it as it was. Sorry I did not take any photographs of the resin model in its raw state but I found two pictures of it behind ones of the Sulzer under construction hence the limited view. In the second one you can see the only modification I made in cutting out the side windows, not an easy task as the resin was about 4 mm thick. I cut out the glazing in Perspex and painted the model. It was only when I got to applying the decals stage did I realise that Silver Fox did not supply the warning colour panel for the front. I decided to use this design from the early 80’s. Unfortunately I had to mask the whole of the loco just to do the front and side stripes. I’ve still to weather the model but my initial reaction is favourable to this Silver Fox Hunslet kit. Maybe Weshty may consider doing a detailing kit for the Hunslet. Edited March 7, 2013 by Kirley Quote
Glenderg Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Fine job you've done on her, a nice addition to your enormous collection of rolling stock. What have you left to get/make/build? Richie. Quote
BabyGM Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Excellent job on the Hunslet, I would love to try a silver fox kit in the near future Quote

The 6th tanker is one I completed before the kit became available The extra white pipe is Evergreen tubing, this vent pipe was not included in the Kit but shown on pictures of the Tankers. Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Looking great K. But before you paint them don't forget to cut them down to the correct length Quote
scahalane Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Nice to see someone getting a start on these, and looking excellent I might add. Quote
Guest hidden-agenda Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Looking great K. But before you paint them don't forget to cut them down to the correct length Good advice but if already glued might be hards to do. I have to say they look attractive with the side detail. Quote
Weshty Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Wow, that is a tasty looking tray of goodies....nice one Kieran. Quote
Kirley Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 What is the correct length? Looking at the pictures shown of the prototypes they seem fairly close and there was nothing in SSM instructions other than reduce the length of the chassis which I did. The only reference books I have (Doyle & Hirsch) don't give an overall length only a 10' wheelbase for these wagons. Quote
Guest hidden-agenda Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Does the Ssm instructions not say K ?. Quote

The only reference books I have (Doyle & Hirsch) don't give an overall length only a 10' wheelbase for these wagons. Kirley, like you,I have drew a blank with my reference material also, although the wheelbase for all the oil tankers appears to be 12'.The oil tankers you are doing look similar to the old Burmah tanks and given the donor chassis recommended for use, this chassis is for a 12'wheelbase,20 ton British tank wagon, then with the work that you have done with the tank ends being close to either end of the chassis,it looks correct to me.Good job with the tanks, they look the part and look right and I certainly do not see the need to do any modification to them.Well done Edited April 13, 2013 by Hunslet 102 Quote
Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) 3mm of the tank and 12mm from the centre of the chassis Check this video at 8min 31sec http://www.irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/1630-A-little-look-around-Ballykay-today Edited April 13, 2013 by Anthony Quote
Kirley Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Oil Tankers Thanks Guys for the info. I finished painting them, fitted couplings and wheels. Test run while waiting on transfers Weshty, then a bit of weathering to finishing them off. Quote
The Train Man Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 stunning!! Keep up the great work! The SSM kit really transforms them:tumbsup: Quote

BabyGM Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Excellent work I remember when I was younger whenever i was near north wall I would see these wagons and that was probably one of the reasons I got into trains Quote
Kirley Posted May 5, 2013 Author Posted May 5, 2013 Finally got the transfers applied and a bit of weathering to finish off. There is something about these Wagons that I really like, I can’t put my finger on it but they just look the part (to my mind anyway). Quote
