derek Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 Hi lads, I am looking for a couple of buses for the layout. (1980s era). Would like C class (short) ,M class or even SS class (school bus). These can be seen in all their finery on " the buses of Tara Junction" by Noel ( @ttc0169 ). I will put this up on the for sale or wanted section too. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks 1
derek Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 (edited) Some more done to the yard. More to do......... Next job will be assembling the two bus kits recently got .And then I need to turn my attention to making a proper station building which will allow me to complete the yard. Edited February 2 by derek 12
derek Posted February 22 Author Posted February 22 Hi lads. Just looking for information regarding plastic kits. With @leslie10646 kits of cattle wagons ,( of which I have three), he recommends using Halfords gray primer to paint as a finished colour. With Jim Poots' bus models, he recommends using plastic primer as an undercoat before painting. My question is whether these two products are the same, and would Halfords gray primer do the job for both. Thanks in advance Derek
popeye Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I just use normal primer and it works fine Halfords primer is very expensive so I buy mine in the car parts shop, it's half the price.

dropshort105 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 this stuff is cheap and it goes a long way, you can get it in most hardware shops. 1

derek Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 Lads, I need some advice on how to clean brushes after painting with the paints supplied with Jim Poots bus models. Tried meths as I assumed paint was enamel, but brush is now rock hard. Thinking of using commercial thinners next?

Thanks for the replies lads. I will try the toothpaste one maybe, or white spirits, as suggested elsewhere on the forum. If all goes to all I will raid the wife's nail varnish remover, as I think it contains acetone.
dropshort105 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 If it's acrylic white spirit or acetone won't work, if it's enamel white spirit will do the job fine, better again, enamel thinner, but be warned, it stinks, don't use it in the house, it is one of the most common causes of model induced divorce. Actually if you have a petrol lawnmower, use a bit of petrol out of that, will also work on enamel, if it is acrylic, just use water,

Will try the other methods- never thought of petrol as a cleaner. All the helpful replies are just what is good about this forum
dropshort105 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Grand its enamel so, white spirit or petrol will do the job. 1
dropshort105 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 If you want to save that brush you have, provided you got most of the paint cleaned off it, chew it for a couple of minutes, that will probably soften it up. But if you aren't stuck for a good brush, bang it with a hammer a couple of times and it should still be good for dry brushing. 1
Tullygrainey Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Cellulose thinners will dissolve most paints, including the paint on the handle of the brush. Brush Magic from Deluxe Materials is my go-to for restoring brushes. Very effective but pricy. 1
